It seems that Mack and International broke the mold in 1953 with their B models and R series IH's. These two models were the first models with non rounded fenders in the front.

Both were successful. Seems as though there must have been some industrial espionage going on at the time. I believe that Mack won out due to their popular 673 diesel. Actually

IH may have started the R model in 1952

I always thought some of the Ford and GM's rounded fenders from the late 40's very early 50's had some influence too.
