Volvo Trucks will introduce a new night shift at its Tuve heavy truck assembly plant in Gothenberg where the truckmaker is headquartered.

Production will increase by almost 50 percent, according to financial journal Dagens Industri.

Swedish trade union IF Metall says Volvo Trucks will need to add 300 to 500 additional people to the plant’s roster.

Today, 800 to 900 people are employed at Volvo’s Tuve truck plant.

“We will begin negotiating with Volvo next week”, says Ove Holmström, IF Metall branch board member at Volvo in Gothenburg.

Volvo has confirmed that that the production rate at Tuve will increase, but refuses to state how many new workers will be recruited.
