Popular Post HeavyGunner Posted June 15, 2016 Popular Post Share Posted June 15, 2016 For the last 8 or 9 years I've had my eye on a willys overland truck parked in a field near me. I'm friends with the owner and I told him all that time ago if you ever decide you're not going to finish your project I'll buy it. Well today was the day.. My friend decided he wanted to spend more of his retirement (and money) fishing rather than sinking money and time into a truck. He was a draftsman in the air force then started and ran his own airplane mechanic business with his brother and the last few years worked mostly on vehicles. He told me he rebuilt the engine a few years back, broke it in and since has moved no more than a couple of miles (back and forth from the field to his shop). Fresh gas and a battery and it fired right up for me and I drove it (very short drive) home. He also is giving me all the "inventory" he has collected for the willys. Engine blocks, pistons, cranks, cams heads, carburetors, oil filters and much more. I'm really looking forward to this project. I assume this is a 475 (1953-1965) with an F-head?(4-cyl), but the 3 horizontal chrome grille bars are missing. The 4T (1947-1950) had a flat grille the the MB and CJs. 473s (1950-1952) are rare (with 5 horizonal grille bars), only built a couple years. You got it, 475 with vin in the fifteen thousands with the F-head. Didn't know they had horizontal chrome bars in the grill though. By the word I have never thought on the matter but in my neck of the woods you can see WW2 Willises from time to time. No after the war one showed out though.
