A Week In Trucks - new Toyota Hilux 2016 review, Scania & Volvo trucks go autonomous

Recommended Posts

The Toyota Tacoma, introduced in 1995, was created solely for the US market. Prior to that, the US offered the Hilux, and from 1995 Toyota continued to sell the Hilux in the global market. Until the arrival of the new Hilux, the two trucks had different platforms.

The new Hilux and US market Tacoma now use a similar platform. The Hilux version has a more rigid and stronger frame. The Tacoma variant's frame has less reinforcement so that it can flex more to meet U.S. tastes (per Toyota).
