Do the miles keep counting? If they do its likely the speedometer. If the miles also stopped counting, it maybe is the speed sensor on the back of the transmission, about where the drive shaft comes out. You should have a "electronic Malfunction" light with code 4-1 (?) if I'm not mistaken.

We have a 97 ch that does this on occasion. Sometimes it works fine and sometimes it only shows 20-30 mph. I've tried replacing the speed sensor, made sure the tone ring wasn't loose, and set the distance between the sensor and the ring and it's still acting up.
