The I-EGR engine is probably the last production engine without tons of electronics. It's short coming  lack of low speed power and soot in oil due to more retarded injection timing. By 2007 Mack had cam/rollers problems figured out so it should be a fairly reliable engine and easier to work on than current cooled EGR/DPF/SCR engines. I normally drive in 1300-1800 RPM range with plenty of power. You won't be able to lug at to 1000 RPM. Follow oil changes religiously to keep soot down and it should work fine.

Good Luck
