Sounds like the injection pump is on its way out the fuel transfer pump side loads the injector pump cam as the bearings wear the cam gets pushed to the side by the transfer pump making the timing irratic at the front two cylinders is good possibility!

thanks fjh. it is the last resort but i have another pump i can put on.dissapointing if thats what it is , i assumed a pump would last a bit longer than this. only driving local runs within 100km's. anyway worth a try. what would be average km's for an Ambac 300 pump?

injectors were done when pump was put on. i am going to put another supply pump on and see how that goes. filters are mounted next to radiator and the primary is at the top with secondary under that. after filling filters with fuel before putting on the primary now is half full after running. but truck starts fine. just seems strange, i assume filter should be full?

ok going to change injector pump this weekend. its also getting a weird pulse in the fuel lines on the low pressure side of pump. this seems to run in time with the miss in engine. i will post results. if this is not problem, then somthing terminal must be wrong.

what timing is the pump ,is the pump off the engine ,if it is take the sump plate off DO NOT lay the pump right over when removing the plate ,place a clean white rag underneath the pump to catch the diesel if the brass bearings are shagged the brass particles will show up on the rag ,if the fuel is clean reseal the sump plate with Loctite 515 recharge the fuel gallery and rotate the pump through a few cycles to see if you have a lazy pumping element ,the delivery valve in the pumping unit do get stuck with the shit fuel we have here in oz ,I had the a simular problem with my 350 4v ,I also advanced the timing by extra 3 degrees NO MORE than that. when fitting your lift pump rotate the engine so the lift pump cam is on the back side of the cam not the nose ,it will make the fitting up of the pump easier  steve

thanks Steve, all makes sense. from memory the pump was set at 20degres BTC. the pump still on truck and will come off tomorrow but when cracking injector lines number two over fueling and number three lagging pressure. the old pump i have still ok just had governor problem. gunna swap governor's and refit. Hopeing this will sort out problem as i want a weekend back.

ok had another go today. your right fjh, yes Ambac pump was one tooth out. got engine to run. knock has gone from number two  and all cylinders getting good fuel but is still running rough.still has the same miss and like before when you muck around with it runs good at first and then gets worse. as usual getting frustrating but i know will get sorted eventually . got to stay positive

well haven't had a chance to do a video yet . but still tinkering. ran truck today and it feels like the chokes on. when you flatten ya foot plenty black smoke. one question though, when you take the return line off the head at the front of engine while it is running, should fuel squirt out?

yes ,excess fuel is returned to the tank [the injector pump generates heat and excess fuel is used to cool the pump it is then returned to the rh fuel tank[ hot tank] where it is cooled by air flow over the tank and gravity feeds the fuel to the lh tank through the crossover line .

so should fuel return from the head constantly or just under load. this line comes out of the head and to a T fitting on the return at the pump. the other line goes to the starter for luberication. and also does it matter wich side of the fuel gallery on pump the delivery and return goes? only running one tank on right side
