I'm having problems with my 2005 cv713 Granite passing emissions. Mack wants $20,000 to get it to pass. So I'm wanting to change out the mack engine with a c-15 cat. My question list is quite long so I guess we'll start with the basics.

Will it fit under the hood?

Is the radiator big enough to keep it cool?

Is there an easy way to hook up the ECM or will it need rewired?

I suppose those are my biggest worries that I can think of now any help I can get will be greatly appreciated

Thank You

The engine is running? You're using the truck every day? The only thing that could cost $20,000 is a complete engine replacement. You need to find another Mack dealer. And no a Caterpillar C15 will not fit under the hood of a Mack Granite don't even try.

Yes I use the truck every day it runs just fine I'm located in Salt Lake City Utah and according to the shops in the area a lot of the Mack trucks are having issues passing the new emission standards. My biggest issue with the truck is it claims to 460hp but compared to my 02 378 Pete with a 475hp cat, the Mack is kind of a gutless wonder. I've considered possibly a bigger turbo to get some more air and hopefully that would give me a little wider power band as well just not sure that's why I decided to post here and pick you guys brains

if your showing up  with a  stock AI 460   and expecting it to pull with a pre emmision C15 475 which is actually 490hp  your in for a shocker.  the programing in the AI  series sucks   and it was made gutless to pass emmisions.   Yeah  He would be needing to pass 04 emmisions which should not be a problem.

I know I'm allowed 18% but I'm blowing 19% and I've never seen my cat cat blow more than 8%. Which is why I was thinking of changing out the engine. But it sounds like it wouldn't work anyway so I'm not really sure where to go there aren't any other Mack dealers near me and this is dump truck so I don't leave the state ever and none of the shops I've been to are willing to even touch it

Have you tried to run bio diesel just to pass the test. I have a 2006 cv 713 ai460 and it was a dog until I put Rochester  stage 2 injectors , there granite turbo upgrade and an area diesel tuner. Its a lot better but still not great. I have to watch the egt. Those up grades will not help you pass emmisions . My truck smokes under load .
