i had an air leaking from a valve that threads into the top of the transmission right behind the shifter. It has an air line that appears to come from a regulator and a 1/4 steel tubing line that runs from the trans to the area of the injector pump where it is capped. What is this valve for?

Maxi miser was a trade name for a dual stage governor setup on the injection pump. Air would be diverted to the governor on injection pump in all gears except high gear. This would allow the engine to wind out in all gears except high gear. When the transmission was in high gear the air supply to the governor would be shut off and limit the RPMs to cut down the speed and increase the fuel economy.
