I've seen some stuff- a man unloaded a bulldozer across the road last week and started clearing some land where they cut that wood last year....or was it the year before last?..anyhow, he piled up some brush and lit the pile on fire before he left that evening. It was still burning several days later, even after all that snow we had.

I couldn't get out until Tuesday, you could hardly stand up in the road out here.

I unloaded a van load of snow on the way to Lynchburg.

Then I couldn't get in the driveway where I was going to load because of ice. I made a right into this driveway and the truck needed to be right on that ice spot.

I got backed out into the street and started to turn around and make a left into the driveway, but decided not to because if I started sliding going that way i'd be going down hill and probably wouldn't stop until I was in the creek down there somewhere. So I just made a wider turn at a higher rate of speed on my second attempt and made it in, after I locked the power divider.

Those two Autocars are still sitting in South Boston

...and the single axle R model is still for sale on 501.

I saw a big Mack truck in Ivor.

I saw pteradactlys in Chesapeake.

...and a cabover Pete.

I saw a dog on the way to Florida.

I know he was going to Florida because I saw him down there later. I saw lots of birds in Florida too.

From snowy Gladys

to sunny south Florida. I called a dignitary when I was in Florida, one known as Hatcity. I was at the power plant near Port St. Lucie, which is right near Stuart, which is right near where Hatcity's top secret headquarters are located...I think.

Got it pointed back to the north now...

I even saw a girl in a car when I was sitting at a red light.

Then I saw something I didn't want to see- on Saturday morning!

but it was all good- the DOT officer was actually a really nice guy.

When I got to the yard yesterday morning I saw the new truck inspector inspecting a new International. She asked me if i'd help her inspect the interior, since nobody else was around. I told her "hell no, have you lost your mind?..i'm going home."

The fire ain't doing a whole lot of burning, but it's still smoking- I took this about 15 minutes ago!

Wonder what they're clearing that spot for?..maybe they are fixin' to move in- it's getting kind of crowded around here now. The houses on either side of me are both empty right now, but some people we know are trying to buy the one through the woods here, and the other one is for sale too.

You're right about that! This was a 45 minute inspection, but if we hadn't been talking and BS-ing so much it wouldn't have been near as long. He didn't want to be out there working on Saturday morning any more than I did. And he seemed to have a full knowledge and understanding about what it's like to be a truck driver. And he could not and never has lived in the city, grew up on a family farm, just like I did- he even lives in the middle of nowhere, just like I do- super nice guy, just like i'm is.

Only met one ornery DOT cop was on 95 in Connecticut  bout 3mi south of the TA near Branford in the rest area,was deliberately trying to tick me off,I saw what he was up to and killed him with kindness! I had JUST run out of hrs,was heading for the TA when he stopped me! He could have made me spend the night at the rest area,but let me go to the truck stop!  Blew a trailer tire on 95 In Va right south of the old Speed and Briscoe  TS a Va trooper pulled over and I mentioned that I hadn't eaten that day,he said " what kind of food do you like?" He suggested several restaurants and I picked one,he took me there, came back in an hour,and took me to Speed and Briscoes so I could get a tire man, by then I'm broke and I'm getting a cup of coffee in the cafeteria line and the tire man says,"is that all you want" I said that's all I could afford! So he lends me ten bucks (I was waiting for a comchek to pay the tire man!) So that's two acts of kindness in one day!That was 1976 but I've never had a bad DOT inspection really!courtesy goes a long way! Another o/o  and I were running together on our way to Texas and they pulled me around back at Brownsville Tn! We would leave our logs open and do them every night when we laid over! OMG I haven't started my log .   an I've been driving all day and I'm In Tennessee! The inspector said he needed one more truck to complete his day! "Must be my lucky day I quipped" We got to the log part and I showed him my blank log meanwhile my friend is pulled over just past the scale waiting for me and I told him he may as well go on...Whadda you mean the inspector says? I said I've been driving 8 hrs and haven't started my log!! He says "just make something up but don't show more than 10 hrs!" He gave me a warning for a couple marker lights ( one bulb out on a two bulb lamp) and said "have a nice day"! Whew!

Over the years I have found that a smile and courtesy has got me thru several inspection which could have been big tickets.

When he started the inspection the DOT man asked if he could sit in my truck to fill out his report ,I said "of course!" I believe the Brownsville scale was where " 60 minutes" did their infamous report on unsafe trucks and outlaw drivers ! Several months before they stopped me!

It's a good looking truck, from the road anyway, no rust or "bents" that I could see.
