Outback Truckers are back for season 5

OUTBACK Truckers is back and bigger than ever with the launch of season 5 tonight,  with episode 1 set in the Kimberly.    The 13 episode season welcomes back both a few regulars along with some new faces.   

Making a return is family man Yogi, 'Outback Legend' and Steve Grahame after last year surviving a tyre blow out that put him in hospital.  

"We are happy to see a few of our favourites back, especially Steve after his shoulder operation who is back on the road after four months," joint managing director of Prospero Productions Julia Redwood said.   

Now in the post production stage for the final episodes Julia said the team is excited to reveal season 5 to it's Australian audiences tonight.   

"What I love about this series is we show the real deal epic journeys these drivers take on, it's very exciting and these drivers deserve recognition for the conditions they have to work through," Julia said.  "We see new faces and head on different journeys to places like Tasmania to the fish markets in Melbourne and an extraordinary journey to Micronesia," she said.   

While many fans of the show come from the industry, Julia says the reactions she gets from those who have had no experience in trucking are often of amazement.     

"We hear feedback where people are blown away with what drivers in Australia have to deal with, they say wow I didn't know this world existed," Julie said.

"Some of the media surrounding the trucking industry isn't always the best so we aim to show the industry in it's real and positive light.  

"A majority of drivers are really hard working, dealing with difficult and sometime risky situations while they are under a lot of pressure to achieve.   

During the filming a crew of 3-4 people travel with the drivers for the whole journey, capturing every moment.  

"This is the real Australian voice we are capturing, the story of the drivers that keep the country running," Julie said.

I just started watching this on Netflix last week. Much less contrived drama than Ice Road truckers. I give it a thumbs up.

Daily, I haven't seen this, but my daughter has Netflix so I can't wait to see it! The first thing I thought is I wonder how much " scripting" is involved! I quit watching "Ice Road" when I saw among other things the guy using the Jake on ice! I quit watching any of the street rod building shows because of the scripted b.s. drama! Overhauling is the worst! Chip Foose is a master craftsman, but only a few minutes are devoted to him doing metalwork! I finally figured out what's going on with these shows, 98percent of the general public has never held a wrench,a torch,a paint gun,or driven a semi,so they want to be entertained by the b.s. drama! Only 3 percent of Americans of driving age can drive a stick shift!, including I suspect a growing number of " semi jockeys"! Okay my rant is over,for now!

Yeah, if a TV crew followed me around I expect after a couple of days they'd say "really?..you mean,this is it?..when does the excitement part happen?"

I read an article in some magazine one time that was put out by Navistar. It was about how they sent trucks to Alaska to run the haul road to Prudhoe Bay just for test purposes- they did not haul general freight, just big concrete blocks. And one of their drivers said in the article something like "all that stuff you see on TV is bullsh*t, if it was really as bad as they try to make it out to be nobody could ever do it".

We enjoy that series out here because most of the road conditions we can relate to.Watch the episodes about Steve Grahame's epic journey from one of the earlier seasons.

I'll agree with macks in Nigeria, the road conditions in Ghana were not much better once you leave the city, as one of the few whites to drive down there it was like driving in the northern Maine woods without trees, once the hot top ended it was nothing but slimy red clay or super fine dust if dry, not much in between, biggest rain drops I have ever seen were in Ghana. looked like clear marbles falling out of the sky. but the people were nice, really surprised to see white guy a driving truck, I had 2 of the presidents motorcycle escorts with me at all times. poverty is unreal, those people that think is bad here need to visit the homeland.
