Mack AI460 AI427 AMI low torque low horsepower poor fuel mileage granite , dead dog , remediation

Drivetrain is in excellent shape, 157k, conservatively operated and well maintained for 110k of that, will the 375 file and injectors eliminate the 4-6 seconds of lag on initial takeoff? I really want to get that gone, makes pulling out in some situations really sketchy!

No guarantees it would be eliminated. It’s all pioneering. The only people Christopher Columbus refused to sell life insurance to were the folks willing to get on his ship.

Ok, so ive been saving my nickles to do the 5 inch exhaust(my local truck pro can get them, has already quoted), exhaust manifold, K&S injectors and 400 turbo, but i just read something that concerns me, if my local dealer has the "Grey Motor Amnesia", does that mean that installing the parts wont help? Or just that it would run better if it had the dealer tune it after?

Just curious, if there was a way to convince the engine brain that the engine had boost, say 10 lbs or some low number like that, by fooling the boost sensor/manifold pressure sensor electronically, would that allow more fueling earlier? Maybe allow the actual boost to build quicker, minimizing the low end lag? Maybe a resistor or something in the circuit? Im not interested in rolling coal, just thinking aloud

Your rear pipe number is different than mine.?

I went off this

The custom Grand Rock, CV713, single run, exhaust part numbers are as follows:

  • MK-41112M2-5, 5" 2-BEND W/BELL FLARE & PYRO; ALZ  (front pipe)
  • MK-5110A-5, 5" 4-BEND W/LIST & WELDS OD/OD; ALZ    (rear pipe)

My Mack Dealership prices, w/mark-up, are as follows:

  • $206.99 front pipe
  • $221.03 rear pipe

As far as the “Turbo “ pipe ( pipe coming off the turbo) The very first CV’s with regular ETECH’s ( very few made) their pipes were 5” in diameter all the way down under the cab to where they necked down to 4” where the flex pipe slid on . On the  CV’s with the AI engines, the turbo pipe necked down to 4” right behind the turbo. The original ETECH pipe is still available through Mack and will fit the CV’s with the AI engine but is really tight. I used this pipe for a buddy’s 2005 CV and chopped off the 4” necked down part and did a full 5” flex and fab’ed up some elbows to a full flow 5” in/out muffler. We experimented with some software (. 427 Australia file)  along with the exhaust but he sold the truck before we could see if it helped the performance.

Headed to pick up my pipes. I hope the numbers I used were correct

I think the odds are in your favor since yours matches mine and mine are installed.

WHAT? No broken studs? Those two old ones are going to start bothering you....better crank on em! 😉

Did you take Mackpro's cue on replacement of the rocker shaft bolts? They have a history of snapping and killing the camshaft. Be easy to R&R one at a time.

There is a service bulletin out there to replace the bolts for breaking.....It lists that its for ASET AC, but they apparently were breaking on AI and AC......

Lol, while you have it stripped for kingpins you better add an extra leaf to the front right spring to support that turbo, we don’t want to create a lean!!

Careful about running with no pyro, it’s your insurance policy against a blue turbo.

Old Milwaukee.

What's the specs on the turbo you got? Looks like it will flow a ton better and keep egt's in check

Mack Tech pointed me to this thread

I ended up using his same turbo which I believe was a borg warner S467 with a billet wheel.

Its a little bigger than the s300 and definitely spools earlier and flows nicely.

Im no expert but the larger exhaust manifold and GR pipes in conjunction with the turbo and injectors from K&S have really made this truck a pleasure to drive

How much boost you pushing with that s467? On our 93 with the S475 (171702) we see 42 psi. Have you considered getting the blixxton 200? We have on the 99 460 E-tech and boy it brought that baby to life.

I have hit 46psi with this turbo, on the 370hp tune.

The only thing a guy can add to that level of engine performance is disappointment:clap:
