Went for a joy ride today.

The oldest boy and myself went for a nice 140 mile joy ride today.   It was the first I had the truck on any 4 lane road, and the longest nonstop trip to date.   Truck topped out at 65.7 mph according to a handheld GPS @ 2300 rpm.   Runs down the road nice @ 58 mph & 1900 rpm.      Truck handled great, got lots of thumbs up, and only used 1&1/2 gallons of oil.   

My back head seaps some oil at the head gasket on the rear of the engine & the air compressor is pretty thirsty, but still builds air alright.    

The big stacks are really quite in the cab with no drone.   You have to stick head out the window or go between buildings to hear the exhaust.  Probably because they're not mounted to the cab.     Most of my noise is coming through the doghouse and firewall.  The best part was we got to pass a KW & a freightliner.

Always  good  to  run the old  dogs! I always  look forward  to  it  myself.  Most of  my long trips are of the 150 mile range to some shows. Although, I  have  ran a couple  in the 325 mile range. Our Illinois  "Antique  Vehicle" plates are legally  going  for shows,parades,or to & from repairs. I always  figure the repair answer works  if/when asked! "I just did some adjustments,and was "road testing" my rig,officer". Our  "Extended Antique" plate however,does allow  "joy riding". So far,so good  on even being "hassled by the man",12 years running ! Al

Wish you the weather will allow more running days in the nearest future. And more "road tests" than repairs

No pictures this time.  Kid hurt his knee at his last football game and is walking with crutches.  Getting in the truck was a little hard for him so we didn't stop anywhere.   We did see some interesting local history though.

One of these days I'm going to have to visit the eastern half of PA...you have a lot of history there. That Rockville bridge sounds pretty neat.

On old US 11 between Scranton PA and Binghamton NY  are two very high and long concrete railroad bridges across the valley which date back to about 1915.

That stone bridge is a cool old artefact. And the one out West is an attractive place to see too.

Wish speedy recovery to the boy and thank you for sharing interesting points in PA.

If the memory serves me right I passed along the river of Suscuehanna in 2013 but havent seen the statue. Probably took wrong direction from Harrysburg

wow haven't been past those two old bridges on Rt11 since I was a little kid. have to go that way again sometime soon before some tree hugger figures they are ''ruining the view''

We came up that way last year on our way to the Brockway Weekend in Cortland NY.

I live about 1/2 hour from the nickelson bridge it is truly a wonder how they built the bridge back then. Once in a while steamtown runs an steam train over it. It is still used for freighttrains.
