He went into depth of the whys and how's of how we got here and hit the nail on the head as far  as I'm concerned. It was a very interesting interview, enough so that I plan on buying the book.

My liberal daughter in law ,sadly my son and their two "Jellyfish" kids are prime examples of all wrong with schools,  parenting skills and the state coddling system. These are the parents of the little dear who stole 2 Mopar racing engines worth $45,000.00 from me,(got them back on my own) to buy dope. I put his ass in prison for it. Their response was if I didn't have them he would never stolen them and my pushing the DA for the max punishment showed to them I had no compassion for his burden of drug abuse and peer pressure and not understanding it was everybodies fault but his. No blame, no remorse, they were the victims it was my fault, the schools fault and the police for not understanding.   Can barely read, do math and would have to go far to have any communication skills, but it is the schools fault not theirs.    Son, daughter inlaw and other child were to busy to even come to their mothers funeral but took the time to send an e mail about some of her things the "were entitled" to. I would have liked to been a fly on the wall when they read my answer involving a Scoop Mobile and lye.

 Geez I feel better now.

What also doesn’t help is when schools have begun replacing classes like wood shop with classes like requiring a 4th year of math by which point everyone is now learning how to graph 3 dimensionally, something that will never be used in and career any of them will ever pick other than being a public school teacher. At a local public school they’ve even replaced gym with dance class (mostly because it’s an art school where they don’t have enough money to have a building with a gym and instead have to use the floor designated for the dancers to fulfill their physical education) and have to rent out space in 4 other buildings within 2 blocks just to have space for normal classes and even so they can have a cafeteria for students to eat. Everyone makes it work but it’s still unfortunate that these talented kids who had to earn their place at this school must walk outside in the snow so they can get to their lunch while at school. But I will say at this school students must try out and prove themselves to get in and all their grades must be C or above, with all honors or AP classes, otherwise they’re removed. Atleast there’s some hope there.

The impression I get is it is no longer culturally correct to set the benchmarks that have historically pushed students to reach their full potential.

Our generations grew up realizing again and again that what we thought at first was impossible (or too hard)........is possible.

Pushing the envelope, for us, was part of growing up.

What's wrong with healthy competition? Poor letter grades embarrass one to apply themselves more........and there's no harm in that, in preparing for the real world.

The bar for failing test scores in North Carolina’s state public schools may be significantly lowered under proposed new legislation.
House Bill 145, introduced by the North Carolina General Assembly last Thursday, proposes to base grades on a 15- rather than a 10-point scale. In other words, an F grade would constitute anything below a 40 percent score — much lower than the 60 percent mark that is the norm in North Carolina and most other states.
Under the new scale system, an A would be 100 to 85 percent, a B would be 84 to 70 percent, a C would be 69 to 55 percent, a D would be 54 percent to 40 percent and an F would be 39 and lower according to the bill.
The scale system would not affect students who are already performing well. But students who are under performing in school will be allowed to continue. If passed, the law will go into effect beginning with the 2019-2020 school year, according to the bill.

It's also spilling over into many universities as well, many professors are being pressured to start passing more students every year to the point that many of them literally give out take home tests, give out free points, or just flat out inflate grades. At one university, half the professors will only fail you if you just didn't do any assignments or tests. They tell the students all answers for those classes were online since we reuse the same tests and quizzes year after year.

I gather kids are too stupid to pass? So is it easier to just lower the standards so we can pretend they're competent now? Like this won't have consequences in ten to fifteen years.  It's as if there aren't enough illiterate exceptional individuals with no critical thinking skills in this country now.

The bill deals with the ranking of the schools and not the students

When I was in school it was coming to grade on a curve when the professor gave a difficult exam. Unfortunately I used to destroy the curve. I even got one professor in trouble for giving really impossible exams

Not inaccurate but only part of the story in the Washington Post.  The ranking grade for the over all school is which is the lead item in the bill is based on the percentage of students getting passing grades for promotion or graduation.  More students that pass, the more Federal and State aid goes to the school districts. Nothing to do about education only the dollar.

DeWayne Craddock, a public utilities engineer, was named as the mass shooter who opened fire indiscriminately at the Virginia Beach Municipal Center, killing 12 people and wounding others, in the nation’s latest horrific active shooter event.

Craddock, who worked for the city of Virginia Beach, previously served in the Army National Guard. He was a 1996 graduate of Denbigh High School in Newport News, Virginia.

Police scanner traffic chronicled how officers rushed to rescue victims, including at least one shot in the face, found survivors hiding throughout the complex, and worked to neutralize the suspect, who was still firing through a door. Authorities praised the heroism of a wounded officer and other first responders.

Craddock used a .45 caliber handgun with a silencer and multiple extended magazines. The shooter and officers engaged in a lengthy gun battle.

In a press conference, the governor stressed that more might have lost their lives without the quick response of law enforcement officers and medics. “Their actions likely saved lives,” he said. They have seen injuries and scenes “no one should have to face,” he said. The mayor called it Virginia Beach’s “darkest hour.” The scene was active for so long that journalists reported hearing gunshots when they arrived.

So every person should carry a gun at all times in all places?  I myself am not going to.

If things are so bad that the need to carry a gun is mandatory, then I will live elsewhere. Life is too short.

If I was king of USA Inc for a time, every "indisputable" murderer apprehended alive would die within 24 hours by the exact same means he/she used on their victims. In these cases with indisputable evidence (cameras, ect.), there would be no trial (a trial for what purpose?). That, I feel, would send shock waves to those who have murderous thinking. I couldn't change them.....but I would put the fear of god into them.

if you do not feel carrying a weapon is your thing, that is your prerogative. but i will still defend you against bad guys if needed.

i simply said that "gun free zones" as said are free range shooting galleries for the bad guys, and i refuse to go into an establishment that has a "gun free zone" sign on the door. 

i have carried either a 38 or 45 concealed for over 40.

and have used my concealed carry weapon numerous times to defend myself and others, also to assist law enforcement officers.  

 

 

i also agree with swift justice, but the snowflakes of the world these days feel coddling is better than punishing. 

as long as criminals know that they will only get a slap on the wrist for their crimes they will continue without fear.

I and my wife when she was alive were armed at all times.I carried since I was in the service and when we moved to Israel in 1972 you open carried at all times. In 48 years I only had to pull out once about a year ago when a man jumped up to my cab and reached in to take my keys, he was met with the muzzle of my pistol. Now what would have occurred if I wasn't armed?

People do not like weapons or feel the need to have one, that's their prerogative, me personally will always be a citizen  never be a subject

The concept of the rule of law is the bedrock of the U.S. Constitution.  The founders agreed that for an orderly society to survive, we had to agree to a set of rules by which we would organize around, limit government power and create laws that would be evenly enforced and fairly applied. For the nearly 240 years our Republic has existed, these principles have stood the test of time. However, it is now eroding in ways previously thought unimaginable. James Madison, who wrote the model that framed the U.S. Constitution, said, “If men were angels, no government would be necessary. If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary. In framing a government which is to be administered by men over men, the great difficulty lies in this: you must first enable the government to control the governed; and in the next place, oblige it to control itself.”

We are witnessing systematic chipping away at the adherence to written laws instead of working through the legislative process, courts of law or elections to challenge grievances. 

Former President Barack Obama issued his infamous statement to form laws more to his liking with his “pen and his phone.” The Department of Justice—namely the FBI—decided that the process and rules for investigating Americans did not apply to them. They operated lawlessly rationalizing that they self-righteously needed to save the country from a duly elected president they did not like.

We saw it when Acting Attorney General Sally Yates, the nation’s top law enforcement officer at the time, publicly resisted the authority of the president when she said she would not instruct the Justice Department officials to carry out President Trump’s lawful order on Muslim refugees traveling to the United States.

 We saw it when several states, cities, and counties defied the Supremacy Clause of the Constitution and federal laws  concerning illegal aliens and declared themselves sanctuary cities. Some county sheriffs have done the same saying they will not enforce state laws relative to firearms without doing it through the state legislature or the courts.

The Weld County sheriff has even vowed to go to prison rather than administer a duly passed state law.

 Remember when after the U.S. Supreme Court upheld gay marriage in Obergefell v Hodges, Kentucky County Clerk Kim Davis refused to issue marriage licenses to gay couples citing personal religious objections to same-sex marriage? She chose incarceration for refusing the Court’s decision. A Supreme Court decision has the effect of law. Whether one agrees with it or not is irrelevant. These gun control laws, including red flag laws are a thinly veiled anti-gun scheme and seem to be unconstitutional but refusing to enforce them is not how we should go about it.

We have history to rely on where government officials tasked with enforcement authority decided that they were the law. In 1963 Birmingham Alabama Police Commissioner Bull Connor adamantly refused to carry out civil rights laws while defending segregation. Democrat Governor George Wallace stood in the schoolhouse door at the University of Alabama and defied the Supreme Court order to desegregate public schools in his state. This is the slippery slope of men and women deciding that the duly passed laws of the state or federal government mean nothing to them.

Now we have state prosecutors in Georgia's five most populous counties saying they will not enforce the state’s legislatively enacted heartbeat law that prohibits abortion after a heartbeat is detected.

it is all outside of our agreement to be a nation of laws and not a nation of men and women. When government officials both elected and appointed fail to live up to their sworn oath to administer the law and instead decide they are the law, the laws are thereby not consistently applied and this create an ethics gap. What they swear to in their oath doesn’t reflect the way they behave. These people are substituting their judgment for what the duly passed law says. Folks, this puts us on a road to a very dark place—anarchy.

If certain people do not like duly passed laws, then they need to work through the legislative process and the political process to build a critical mass of people to change it through elections or petitioning the Court for relief. I hesitate to encourage appealing to courts; however because it invites a temptation for judges to engage in political high jinx and activism or act like a super-legislature. Think Justice John Roberts and Obamacare. We then become ruled by people in black robes instead of leaving to the elected legislatures that lawmaking authority, which is reserved for them.

This attitude of deciding which laws we will follow or evenly enforce is problematic. Once we get used to it, it will become a habit, once it becomes a habit the government loses its legitimacy. When that happens, we are no longer a constitutional republic. We cease to be a government of laws and return to the type of governance under King George. We become subject to the whims of particular people or groups who are known to intimidate and bully to get their way.

COLUMBIA, South Carolina, USA — A jury found South Carolina father Timothy Jones Jr. guilty of murder Tuesday in the deaths of his five young children, allowing prosecutors to seek the death penalty.

Prosecutors say Jones was a selfish, evil father who decided his children should die instead of stay with his ex-wife.

Jones, 37, confessed to exercising 6-year-old Nahtahn until he died after an electrical outlet was broken in his Lexington home in August 2014.

Prosecutors said Jones then considered what to do for several hours — watching a prison rape scene from a movie and heading to a store for cigarettes with his oldest child while leaving the others at home with the body — before deciding to kill them all.

Jones would eventually strangle 8-year-old Mera and 7-year-old Elias with his hands and, in his confession, said he used a belt to choke 2-year-old Gabriel and 1-year-old Abigail because his hands were too big.

Jones then wrapped the bodies of all five children in plastic and drove around the Southeast U.S. for nine days, running a few errands, buying synthetic marijuana, but mainly making erratic trips.

Jones searched the internet for countries that don't extradite suspects back to the U.S. and took his passport. He researched how to disintegrate bodies faster.

Jones dumped the bodies after putting them in garbage bags on a hillside near Camden, Alabama, and was arrested a short time later at a traffic checkpoint in Smith County, Mississippi, after an officer said he smelled the horrible odor of decomposition from the SUV.

That is the issue with most all crimes today, big or small. . ..zero fear of punishment and or punishment based on social or financial status. Smollett and the SAT are prime examples

Many (most) DA's and Judges follow the laws by their views instead of the laws as written. As I was told on jury duty by a defense lawyer "there are different degrees of guilt and innocence". I told her No either guilty or not no in between. They didn't pick me.

Shocks the conscience...This thread makes me want to bring back punishment laws of the British middle centuries. While I admit, hanging someone till near death, reviving them, pulling their intestines out and chopping them up before they bleed out is cruel and unusual..... it’s a bigger deterrent than 3 hots, a cot, exercise programs, conjugal visits and guaranteed health care. There is a constitutional middle ground we are ignoring.

Seems like it’s a hard choice to carry everywhere. I respect folks who are willing, but that’s a lot of work and discipline as a daily regiment.

I’ve only had to draw on unleashed dogs who are false-charging me and that’s stressful enough, especially in a public place. I’ve got it locked down....Get in front of the kids, hold your gun low right w/laser on Mr.Cuddle’s brisket and put your left arm out horizontally as a doggy treat. Guarantee somebody is going to sue you if you pull the trigger on their “cute, little, harmless, he’d never bite anyone”, 70 pound pit bull. 

My neighbors brother had some high dollar, pedigreed, dogs. A weepy, puss eyed, stray cat kept coming over and eating in his dog’s dish. One day he walked outside with his golf club and tee’d off on pussy cats head, missed the golf ball....got pussy’s head. Snowflake saw it and called him in, class C(or D) felony. The laws protect sick cats as well or better than most of the victims on this thread.

The justice system treats the criminals 100% better than the elderly and veterans. We give the convicts  health, education, internet, cable t.v., 3 square meals and now in many states felons will get their voting rights back. (NOT a right it is a privilege)   What we give the elderly and many vets is a couple of bucks to pay for their healthcare and some cat food. A few politicians on the full term abortion band wagon are also pushing for the euthanasia of the elderly with Alzheimer's,  Dementia and terminal issues to unburden the healthcare system. A short step to target other "burdens on society".

We  treat the illegals better than the old and vets.

A good gauge on society is how they take care of the old and their veterans. Where do you think we stand  by that criteria?
