I have a 1989 Mack Midliner MS200 and I am having a problem getting the cab tilting latch to release.

The directions say to push the latch handle up to release the main latch and then pull down to release the safety catch.

When I push up, nothing happens. When I bought the truck a few years ago the seller was able to unlatch the cab to show me the engine but since then I have been unable to get the latch to release the cab.

Is anyone here familiar with this model of Mack truck made by Renault who can give me some clues as to what I can try to release this main cab latch? Is there any sort of safety release mechanism tied to the handbrake being properly set or other safety measures I should look into?

I need to be able to change the oil on the truck but if I cannot unlatch the cab all my maintenance plans are at a stand-still.

Thanks

Since I am getting no replies to my questions here, Is this not a correct forum to ask questions about the Mack Midliner series of trucks?

If not, can anyone suggest a better forum where I could find some answers about this type of Mack truck?

Perhaps I should be looking for a forum that covers Renault trucks? Problem is that although I know this truck was originally made by Renault, I have no idea what model of Renault truck this was derived from. Can anyone here tell me anything about that?

Hi Steve, I’d say this is as good a place as any to ask this question. You just have to hope the right person reads it.

But a picture says a thousand words, and it might be enough for some of the smarter guys on here to give you some direction.

Best of luck with it.

I suppose you'd have better chances with your question asking Renault guys on some European truck forum. But those Frenches talk French. And not more English than you do of French:)

Try Buzzybee.nl. Dutch folks are all over what happen in Europe (and beyound too). They mostly understand English. And your cab tilt setup must be the same as Renault Midliner has.

Push down on the latch handle while simultaneously pushing up on the cab, the cab will release from the main latch and go up about an inch or two. Push up on the latch handle in the opposite direction to now release the safety catch. If it hasn't been used in a while you may have to push up pretty hard on the cab, I suggest another person. Be sure to lube the latch up good after you get it tilted.
