Pressure in coolant

Question

98 613,E7 etec,355/380, ran fine yesterday, first couple hrs this morning, excessive coolant being returned to surge tank, heater hoses go cold instancely, changed water pump and thermostat, work perfectly for 100 or so miles, right back to doing it again! Compressor maybe?

Any ideas?

Thanks

Install a pressure tester, do not pump up leave it at zero on the gauge start engine and see if gauge climbs. Get a Napa block check tester go by the instructions.

If you see bubbles and it turns the fluid green there are exhaust gases in the cooling system and clamp off the compressor cooling lines while testing if you can.

Never heard of a block ck tester!

Can't block compressor lines! I do have pressure tester, but that won't tell you if it the compressor or head gasket! Motor only has 200 thousand on a Mack inframe! Just not sure how come it ran for 100 miles perfectly after new pump and thermostat, then instantly acted up!

The block test checker is called a Combustion Leak Detector Kit. It  has a fluid you add to it and if there is any compression gases in the coolant , the fluid turns to a yellow/ green color. Napa #BK7001006 or, Lisle #75500 and a few others make the kit, runs 40 / 50 dollars. If not than look to the compressor.

If you buy one follow the instructions exactly.    Paul
