How much fuel does a Caterpillar ARD head eat?

Was going through the lifetimes on our 330Horsepwr C9 CAT engine in a 972K loader.  Interim 4.

Total operating hours 29,241

Total Engine Rotations  2,046,751,236

Total fuel squirted out the tip of the 7th injector creating no profitable power displacement............. 3,615.4 gallons

I'm glad someone out there thinks wasting 3600 gallons of fuel is a great idea.   I just don't know who.

that is just amazingly dumb. to think how much fuel is wasted over a lifetime and that is just from one little 330hp cat.

I'd like to see an actually scientific, end-to-end study done on how much this actually reduced pollution, not just at the exhaust of the piece of equipment but along the entire chain. I'd bet that after you factor in the added production costs, supply chain costs of delivering extra fuel, refining costs, etc. it's at best a wash. Talking environmental factors, not dollar factors -- we already know that's a loss 😛

Google "GREET model"... It's an actual computer model that predicts the manufacture to scrapping energy use of a vehicle. In the model runs I've seen a new more fuel efficient vehicle takes tens of thousands of miles to make up for the energy spent to make it. For example, if you replace a 30 MPG Corolla with a 40 MPG Prius, it takes most of the life of the Prius before it shows any benefit. GREET also shows that electric cars have no benefit unless there's renewable fuel produced electricity available to charge them. And in defense of the diesel, GREET shows that a diesel running on renewable fuels like biodiesel reduces greenhouse gasses as much as an electric car running on renewables electricity. Problem is, the new injection systems built to meet Euro6 and EPA2010 standards can't handle more than 20% biodiesel. Given that all but a few big metro areas were already in compliance with EPA air pollution standards before the EPA2007 standards took effect, it would actually be better for the environment if we dropped the standards back to pre-EPA2007 as those fuel injection systems could handle higher percentages of biodiesel.

I recall seeing a study about 10-15 years ago that claimed that the Jeep grand Cherokee was one of the most environment friendly. it took into account the parts used, where they were shipped or built at. where employees who built said parts lived and traveled to work. all the little things that most dont account for.

The worst  "environment friendly" cars was a Honda or Toyota hybrid with all the batteries and special parts etc.... It was the most fuel efficient MPG wise but was dead last when you look at everthing

I know voiced similar opinions on this matter in other threads and I still truly believe the 6bt 12 valve Cummins is or was one of the most economical engines ever in a pickup. Also have wondered why the US could import the Toyota HiLux diesel pickup which far surpassed the fuel economy of th 22r and all things taken into account probably lasted longer (less energy/pollution to make new vehicles) as well.
