Popular Post VaPatentman Posted July 28, 2018 Popular Post Share Posted July 28, 2018 Discovering things may not be what they seem. At first glance the nose piece and grill looked pretty good. In the process to replace the radiator bushings I opened up a can of worms. I discovered the lower end of the grill was completely rusted away and bondo-ed to the nose piece with thick layers of bondo. I am in the finish stages of the grill and the grill back piece having had to make a new bottom for the grill and repair 9 up right pieces on the grill back piece. Working on the nose cone now. These delicate pieces can really try a man’s soul and worth every minute in the preservation of Mack history. In the end I will have a survivor not Concours’ quality restoration! Well put "BONDO SURPRISE" I discovered the bottom of the doors had been filled with Great Stuff foam insulation and covered with bondo on the outside, looked nice at first glance but was causing the doors to rust out from the inside, the foam was acting like a sponge and retaining moisture. j hancock Posted July 28, 2018 Share Posted July 28, 2018 It is irritating that Ford still uses some sort of foam between the outer skin and the wheel wells on their pickup truck bodies. There is a factory hole on the inside of the body near the top rail and I use it to squirt used hydraulic oil onto the foam. I would rather have the foam filled with oil than water.
