Is there a way to use a single speed PTO on a 1995 CL700 with the Mack 18 speed transmission? The present multi-speed PTO is mounted well back on the trans. and requires putting the trans. in gear and then neutralizing the drive with a dash air control. There are 2 more covers near the front of the trans. Could a PTO be mounted there so it could operate with the shifter in neutral?

Thanks

Definitely. 90% of the PTOs I’ve installed are on front box left. Just make sure you get your PTO percentage calculated to fit your application

Just using the truck as a tandem end dump with 15 ft. box. The present pump is getting tired and I would like to use a close coupled replacement to eliminate the PTO shaft. Are there various ratios available? Would the PTO adaptor be specific to this transmission?

Thanks

Let your vendor spec your percentage, pump and PTO, His liability.

After losing a bunch of transmissions to PTO failures we went to an 82 series Muncie. If you have a small window PTO you will need a plate. FYI- if you re-house the PTO output for direct mount put new bearings/seal in it, your transmission only lives as long as the PTO’s smallest, weakest, bearing. That’s why the 82 series became mandatory. You don’t need one that big though, we set up log booms with rail gear lifts.

True story from three months ago. One of the older guys (60) at the shop was installing an 82 series and left it rest on his stomach while he swapped shim gaskets. Said he felt a sharp stab in his guts. Didn’t feel good. Went home and collapsed in the shower. Ma hauled him in. Tore his intestines open. They are not a PTO, should be listed as an auxiliary transmission.

As a follow up to the PTO suggestion, it has been changed to a left front mounting with a 120% ratio PTO. Opted for new pump and PTO. Dump operation is faster and much more convenient. As an added bonus, the transmission shifts better without the extra mass of the PTO gears on the back end.

Thank you again for the help.
