I purchase quite a few items from a major restoration supply company located in Pottstown, Pa. I was going to order a 3.52 -ounce item that cost $11.99, at checkout the 4-8 day delivery to Virginia was $16.86, for a total of $28.85. I thought this was out of line. For the most part I love their products and the videos that they develop and will continue to buy from them. At one point they offered free shipping for orders over $99.00, but doesn’t show on their website anymore. This a yet another example of what drives so many people to Amazon.  I may be just whining because we all know our hobby isn’t a cheap one. Has anyone had similar experiences and have been able to get a more reasonable shipping quote?

A lot of the sellers mark up their shipping. I had a similar experience with a vendor in Wash state wanting to charge twice the purchase price for shipping a small electrical part. When asked they changed the charge to a USPS padded envelope that was less than half the original shipping price quoted.

If it is a ORM-D (other regulated material)  like paint or solvent, charcoal, flux and a ton of other items the Federal Government has declared "dangerous". UPS, FEDEX and the USPS have surcharges and it is a ground only transport. Adds an average of 20% to 38% to the shipping costs.

I was a 3-1/2 ounce spot weld tip for a mig welder. I figured hoped Eastwood would use priority mail or another reasonable method

I've looked at stuff from other places and had it added to my shopping cart.  I didn't purchase at that time, and a few day later I get an email reminding me about the stuff I left in my cart  and offered me a discount.

That's good to know.

Amazon is amazing. I don't know how they do it, but I order stuff from them and as soon as finish ordering I go pick the item up off the front porch. Sometimes it's been there since yesterday.
