Hello everyone,

Thanks for the opportunity to chat with knowledgable pros. Just purchased a cab chassis 1998 RD688S with only 5000 miles showing. From appearances, it looks like it may have had a rather hard life, but I'm told that these old heavy duty trucks can take a beating and live a long life. Story is that it has been sitting for the last 3-4 years. It was a local city truck that was never put on the highway. Apparently only pulled a rollback trailer all its life until it was parked. Put batteries, fuel and some fuses in it and the old Mack started right up without much effort. I did get worried when the transmission failed to engage. So we had a truck mechanic take a look and he finally determined that the clutch needed adjusting. After the adjustment it seems to be doing fine other than being kinda stiff when shifting gears. I'll be working the other minor bugs out of it in the near future, weather permitting. I'll be needing some advice from you guys from time to time, so thanks in advance for the your help.
