I'd have it repaired. I had a hood for one of my old Marmons repaired by a shop that specialized in Corvettes. Cheaper than a new or used hood and has had no issues for a few years.   Paul

Unless there is something more substantial busted up than the photo shows it is well worth repairing.

Shops that specialize in Corvette, boats, aircraft parts, etc. will be good candidates to reference. Fiberglass work is not difficult, but it is time consuming to do correct.

  • 4 weeks later...

Some 2x4 wood fiberglassed in as reinforcing ribs does wonders for repairs. My dad's repaired pretty much every hood we have, everything from the spider cracks on the top of the hood to corners busted from snow plowing.  I can't see damage to anything other than the fender plastic, and that should unbolt.

Any cracks should get a rib fiberglassed on the inside of the hood and the area on the outside should be sanded down so a filler can be worked into the crack. Then once that's all hard sand it smooth and shoot some paint at it.

I've broken the bumpers on my race car a couple times.   I always start with a piece of 16ga metal underneath to hold things in place and then fiberglass to hold it.  They shake and wobble while driving, but nothing has cracked or broken.
