Something about the Crackerbox and the Dodge L1000 that I really love.Think it might be that they were the first big square cabover we got to see over here, mind you in pictures only. The most popular cabover on the roads here were the F700 and the Road Commander2.....Happy days....

my introduction into the cracker box was the fire departments aerial ladder. V12 engine with 10 speed trans. there were only 4 of us that could drive it. 1985 it was sold to a fire department out in the midwest at 20 years old because we could no longer rate it as a first line truck without doing a complete refurbish... and that cost almost as much as the new diesel truck that replaced it.

it had a little over 17,000 miles on it when it went west.

when you are up to your armpits in alligators,

it is hard to remember you only came in to drain the swamp..

I was upset and kept splitting :hi/lo range ; boss came over and ripped me a new ass--le . don't recall out come. I will say the crackerbox is unique and fun.

sorry, no pictures of it. and i dont know if it is still alive or not.

i have not seen it in 40 years.

it had a deck control 75 foot ladder with a nozzle up top and 4 inch hose from deck to nozzle up the middle of the ladder, a 50 foot, 30 foot, 4 20 foot extension ladders in the bunks under the big ladder.

and 2 14 foot "roof ladders", one on each side of the ladder bunk.

500 gallon water tank, 750 GPM pump with ladder console pump controls. only hose on board though was the 4 inch line for the ladder and a shorty to connect to the trucks pump.

it rolled with a pumper for water supply from hydrants.

i remember that truck like it was just yesterday.

too bad i cant remember what i had for breakfast this morning!!
