Virgina issue on to higher court

If anyone recalls the issues I had with the incorporated village I live in about the  disabled veterans housing development we were going to build, my suit against the town for bias and the disregarding the rights of the disabled vets has now moved the the Federal appeals court. The village has now lost the suit 3 times and  has a final shot. Thye lose this time the town will be bankrupted . They should never ever have lied on record and video.

They'll lose the final appeal which will hopefully bankrupt the village, than the Town council goes to court and each individual zoning board member gets sued. Hard to fight it when all their actions are in the Village meeting video tape and additional video from a citizen showing their different answers to the same request. Than they get to answer to the Feds on housing violations, discrimination against disabled Vets, civil rights violations. Lastly Virginia gets to prosecute whats left.

They are not vets from my war but they need much more support  than we did, plus I promised my wife and my LMG gunner before he died last year A.O. that I finish what we all started.

yes all because of 2 "ladies" on the board who looked  and treated a me like a lower class bum because I came to the meeting in work clothes direct from a job site.

It is really sad that some people are so superficial that they will judge you based on the clothes you wear.

Early on I learned that a lot of the people with real money do not dress flashy.

In my line of work I am often called to be an expert witness. One day a lawyer called me to schedule a meeting that day, I told him I was in the field but could meet at the end of the day. We arrived at his office and the receptionist was not happy to see two sweaty guys in work clothes.

I learned at a young age never judge a person by how they dress or what they drive. Fun sometimes though. Ordered a new Rousch Focus in 07, salesman asked how much of a deposit were we leaving for the order. I said 8 and handed him Mcdonalds bag with 8000.00 cash. After he could talk he gave us a receipt so he could walk to the owners office across the aisle. My wife and I were on the way home from cleaning out my parent 50 year collection in their cellar. Sweaty,dusty and frayed around the edges when we bought it.

same here. back in 88 i heard a ford dealer 20 miles away just got in a diesel 4X4.

when i got off work i grabbed my partner at the body shop and went to the ford dealer 20 miles away in a 66 dodge W300 with 750,000 miles on it.

i walked in the front door covered in grease, he was covered in body filler dust and paint and we looked like someone drug us out of the gutter. 

told the salesman i wanted the white diesel parked out front and they started with the we don't think you can afford it crap. i asked how much and he said 19 grand. i told him i will give you 17 grand rite now. he said i will have to talk to the owner. a few minutes later the owner came out with the salesman and said we can not do that. i picked up the stack of hundred dollar bills and said see ya. when they realized i was talking CASH Now, things changed real fast and i became their best friend.

i think what really made them soil their pants was when i removed my overalls before getting in the new truck to leave and they saw the 45 i was carrying. 😆

Had a similar thing happen at the then new Peterbilt dealer in Stroudsburg PA. Local farmer / owner operator, Jay Kresge, walked in wearing bib overalls and bargained them down to the bare minimum on a new tractor where they had figured in their profit from the financing fees.  When they pulled out the finance papers, he pulled his checkbook out of the front of his bibs.. When the dealer started to object he just said "Call Chase Manhattan in New York"!!! He was a great grand nephew of S.S. Kresge who started Kresge Five and Dime which evolved into K-Mart..

I'd say that's surprising what with the military school there and all the veterans they employ...but I don't remember any of the professors being much involved in town politics. It's a small enough place, you'd think maybe they couldn't afford to judge working folks on how they dress, being as that's who lives there...or has enough of Charlottesville sprawled in that direction now?

Same here w.r.t. not judging people by how they look. Often the most successful trucking and timber operations back home were those where the boss also drove a truck or helped at the mill, and got just as dirty as everyone else. I've found it to be the same in industry up north, too -- the companies that survive economic downturns are those with presidents/CEOs/whatever who are out on the line tinkering on machines, seeing how things are running, etc., not the ones who collect a salary and bail as soon as there's trouble.

Fork Union Military Academy is still a mostly normal school, but in the 30+ years we've been there  the village has been getting more gentrified with the people moving into "the country from Richmond and Charlottesville" Most have big monthly notes to pay for most everything they have. There are 2 woman and one man who have issues. The pair of woman have the upper class down the nose stare and the male board member is apparently a reality agent in the I 95 /295 corridor zone. The woman whom I call Ms Shitzdontstink wants up scale urbane' people moving in to "her" town. When my issue came up they demanded it be open to all groups. When my daughter inlaw asked the same question the following meeting, she was told she could pick and choose who occupied the houses there are no requirements other than the fair housing laws.

If they lose the final appeal I'm going to give them a one time offer where they will pay no judgements or fines and no town bankruptcy for a mere minimal financial outlay over a 12 year period and than the State and Federal charges will be shelved if and only if the meet my single term and abide it to the letter for the time period. Plus they end up looking like hero's. Other wise the poop hits the fan    Already had the mayor and the town attorney approach me last Friday. They realized I own as of Friday 1785 acres of the town.

With 1785 acres you should put a mobile home park closest to the snobs and let the disadvantaged stay there free.

 

Or better yet build a park there with campsites for the homeless!

 

My vote is no mercy for the town, just follow the judges orders. Then just say "it's what the judge ordered"

At the end of the day, even though sticking it to the town sounds like the most satisfying thing to do, bankruptcy will only do more harm than good to the honest productive members of the town that aren't on Mrs. Shizdontstink side.  They still need sewer, water, infrastructure and other public works projects not to mention law enforcement, fire and EMS protection (much of which I am sure is done by volunteers but nonetheless requires money).  I like Paul's idea of giving them one final chance to right their wrong.  This way Paul gets what he wants and legally deserves as a land owner, veteran and citizen of the United States, and the vast remainder of the town (which I am assuming are not trying to screw him) are not deprived of the services and protections that their taxes have gone to fund for decades.

On the other hand Paul, if they even flinch, drop the hammer.
