I must be an exception. I wrote "VOID" across the face of the $1200.00 "Economic Stimulus Package" check sent us when Obama was president, and returned it to the IRS office in Peoria.

I don't believe in charity for those undeserving. Never have, never will.

I'm seeing the real Pence for the first time. His direct, professional and calm demeanor as chair of the Coronavirus taskforce is impressing me.

He’s in his professional setting, doing well. I listen to his Focus on the Family interviews, outside his sphere of formality, guy has a heart for humanity.

Considering how much money has been wrung out of me over the years by federal taxes and fees, I took some of my money back.

Your cancelled check was probably reprocessed and sent to Jeff Bezos or Warren Buffett.

Jim

It doesn't cost anything to pay attention.

I'm in a different country, but I can say, I'm not taking any of these special payments or anything. Because the one thing I do know is, when it comes to the gov, nothing is "free"

You are going to pay for it in the end. Or you are signing over your properties to them.

Just going to work and carrying on like every other day.

That's a way to look at it for sure; however in the very next audit I went through at that same office, I was remembered very favorably for the act which netted about three fold in yield with "allowed" deductions.

No, you are NOT. The government CANNOT save me or anyone else from themselves. Freedom means you have the right to do stupid things if you do not hurt anyone else or infringe on any other individuals freedoms. Your given freedoms define your character. That is what makes America Great.

I swore to myself I would not get further involved in this thread, but I have a hard time KEEPING MY BIG MOUTH SHUT. It seems others can comment without being scrutinized. If I insult anyone sorry and you can just block me and my content.

Just to be clear I'm not an insane prepper, socialist. troll, racist or homophobe as some might accuse me. I don't have a problem voicing my opinions, but I won't argue (to long) with idiots. I've never been accused of being politically correct  But, if that was one of my kids who I was paying through college their check just go cancelled and you are not welcome to visit my home until we get a handle on this Wuhan Flu shi_ and this all blows over and clears up.

Here in PA our Governor is trying to make up laws on the fly. He has ORDERED all businesses shut down and he is trying to invoke shelter in place. He is getting plenty of push back from our State House and Senate because he has NO authority to do so.. He seems to have forgotten there are three branches of Government. He is doing nothing but creating more hysteria, fear and panic. I have two (millennial) sons who are pissed off because then might not be able to go to work Monday to pay their rent and bills. The Wife (Old Lady) and I might be able to ride out the storm depending on how long this shi_ lasts. No one sees this as an opportunity from some of those who are power hungry in our government to take advantage of the situation to seize the opportunity to take away more of our freedoms in the name of false security. While they were growing up we gave our sons their freedom to make their own choices. I proud of them both for doing what they think is right under the circumstances in the name of Freedom.

In Philadelphia and NY City they stopped arresting criminals for what they say "certain types of crimes". Still crimes?

Sure as shi_ if I went to Philadelphia today they would arrest me if I stepped out of the lines and J-Walked. The Philadelphia Mayor wants to set up "Free Safe Houses" for heroin addicts. WTF? His is up against a fight with the citizens because no one wants the undesirable types such an operation might attract to their neighborhoods.

First mistake is informing the kiddos it only kills late middle age-to-Elderly conservative types (and right before spring break), because most of those young party-fools aren’t scared to die having fun either way....tether free rock climbing.... cliff jumping.... bungee jumping ...... glider suites... etc, etc, etc.

We had a group of 6 workers from This place go down to spring break and incurred upon themselves a 14 day unpaid quarantine from the company. They didn’t care, more time off. One I talked to said they decided they weren’t going to forfeit on a paid reservation.

We have plenty of work, but no ones coming in. I’m on my third call in today for a semi down in our highway/yard group. Big Dad’s dangling the 💵 and the only one out dodging Corona is the broke guy with 5 kids and stay home wife. Good news is no ones ever caught Corona from licking a Kenworths oil pan.

I do live in Philadelphia and work for State Government. This what was say by Philadelphia Police Commissioner

During a news conference Wednesday morning, Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw addressed the new protocol put in place during the coronavirus emergency calling it "uncharted territory.""To be clear, the Philadelphia Police Department is not turning a blind eye to crime," Outlaw said. "We will continue to enforce all laws."The new protocol's major change involves non-violent offenses."Persons who commit certain nonviolent offenses will be arrested at the scene. Once their identity has been confirmed, they will be released and processed via arrest warrant," Outlaw said.According to Outlaw, this is similar to the 'summons process' that is utilized in many other counties throughout the Commonwealth. She explained if the officer and supervisor believe the individual poses a threat to public safety, the suspect can be taken into custody for immediate processing."Officers will use discretion on how a person is processed," she said. Her message at the press conference echoed a social media post she released in the early morning hours. "In order to balance this approach, personnel from several plain-clothes units have been reassigned to patrol duties to increase police presence and deter crime twenty-four hours a day," Outlaw said in the social media post. The commissioner said this is a temporary response model to protect the officers and the communities from becoming infected or spreading COVID-19. They also allow the department to adjust to "changing availability of resources within other areas of the criminal justice system." "To reiterate," Outlaw said, "criminal offenders will be held accountable for the crimes they commit."

When approaching a 4-way stop, the vehicle with the biggest tires has the right of way!

I just ran the Star car to town to drop it off at dealer for the annual saftey before construction season starts.
First thing I see at the city limits is a big lighted road sign "Essential Travel Only."

Get to dealer, all the doors are locked. They have a walkie talkie outside on a table that apparently is OK for all kinds of us to touch, LOL
You have to speak to them inside over the radio then drop your keys in a drop box.

Mechanics that were working outside all had medical facemasks on, LOL

And every parking lot I passed was empty except the liquor stores.

When things sour, everyone has their hand out.

U.S. airlines called on Friday for a government stimulus package. They want the US taxpayer to cover their payroll for around 750,000 jobs.

In return for ownership, in return for shares so the country can profit when their stocks return to normal levels, I might agree.

United Airlines CEO Oscar Munoz and President Scott Kirby both said that they will suspend their salaries, b ut NOT for the year.......only thru the end of June. Munoz has a $10 million annual salary, and Kirby $5.5 million. Absurd salaries at any time.

Southwest Airlines CEO Gary Kelly has volunteered to take a whopping (sarcasm) 10% pay cut. He has a $7.6 million salary.

Delta Airlines CEO Ed Bastian, who earns a ridiculous $14.9 million annually, has cut his salary 100% for 6 months. I would think the airline could meet payroll with that $7.45 million savings.

No sound from American Airlines CEO Doug Parker who earns $12 million annually.

Ups and downs are part of the airline business. One's business model should, to some degree, allow for that. Airlines can't simply take and take, and then ask for free money (subsidies) in a downturn.

The airlines are trying that out down Here Too..

Ya, if it's all trumps fault, then why is Canada also short and having stores price gouging right now? Give me a break. I WISH we had  a Trump running our country instead of the loser we got now. I sure wish Harper didn't retire. He was about the best we ever had. At least he had our budget balanced.

Last week's Senate Republican relief package would give US airlines $58 billion of taxpayer money.

Mitch McConnell tried to distinguish it from the notorious bank bailouts of 2008. “We are not talking about a taxpayer-funded cushion for companies that made mistakes. We are talking about loans, which must be repaid, for American employers whom the government itself is temporarily crushing for the sake of public health.”

But the airlines are big enough to get their own loans from banks at rock-bottom interest rates. Their planes and landing slots are more than adequate collateral.

Why do airlines deserve to be bailed out? (And for that matter, why do the Indian's casino business deserve an $18 billion handout?)

Over the last decade, US airlines spent 96 percent of their free cash flow, including billions in tax savings from the Trump tax cut, to buy back shares of their own stock. This boosted executive bonuses and pleased wealthy investors but did nothing to strengthen the airlines for the long term.

Meanwhile, the four biggest carriers gained so much market power they jacked up prices on popular routes and slashed services (remember legroom and free bag checks?).

United CEO Oscar Munoz on Friday had the audacity to warn that if Congress doesn’t bailout the airline by the end of March, United will start firing its employees.

But even if bailed out, what are the odds United Airlines would keep paying all its workers if the pandemic forced it to stop flying?

A government (aka. taxpayer) bailout of United Airlines would be for shareholders and executives, not workers.

France 24  /  March 20, 2020

Hydroxychloroquine has been used for around 70 years to treat malaria, rheumatic conditions and other ailments. Now its potential use in the fight against coronavirus has become a source of hope for many, following encouraging results from a clinical trial in France on Monday. But experts caution that there is still uncertainty about its effectiveness.

A very old drug is coming back to the fore. The successful testing of hydroxychloroquine for use against the coronavirus in France’s second city Marseille on March 16 created high expectations amid this surging epidemic – especially in light of Donald Trump’s announcement on Thursday that the US Food and Drug Administration has approved its use for this purpose

Didier Raoult, director of a university hospital institute in  Marseille, explained that he had conducted a clinical trial in which he treated 25 Covid-19 patients with hydroxychloroquine. After six days, only 25% of patients who took this drug still had the virus in their body. By contrast, 90% of those who had not taken hydroxychloroquine continued to carry the Covid-19.

In the wake of this announcement, French pharmaceutical giant Sanofi offered to donate millions of Plaquenil (a trade name for hydroxychloroquine) to continue the tests, while the French government’s spokesperson Sibeth Ndiaye hailed the “promising results” and promised to expand clinical trials for this treatment.

It was a Chinese study published on March 9 that first put the spotlight on this anti-malaria drug in the context of the current pandemic. Researchers at the University of Beijing demonstrated its effectiveness in an in vitro trial – that is to say, an experiment on cells in a laboratory.

This drug is regularly touted as a potential solution whenever a new virus appears. One “possibility is that chloroquine may alter the ability of the virus to bind to the outside of a host cell in the first place (which is an essential first step for entry) ”, noted Robin May, a professor of infectious disease at Birmingham University.

Well there is a positive to all this. Even though it is hurting the economy overall, it is putting the hurt on big oil and I LOVE IT!!! The barrel is dropping like a rock. And while we are still being gouged at the pump, I love seeing nobody buying fuel. But I guess I shouldn't get too excited.....big oil will screw us over for this eventually.

I just saw pics of Hwy 401 through Toronto. One of the busiest highways in the world. There is nobody on it!
