That only works if your crooked teamsters union  did not squander your pension and annuity funds you paid into for 32 years leaving you with a pension of 360 per month and 34,000 in annuity fund instead of the 346,000 you put into it.

when you are up to your armpits in alligators,

it is hard to remember you only came in to drain the swamp..

Well I should’ve been adding to the 40 one a long time ago now I’m just sick to death of triple trailers Highwinds long shifts blowing out tires snowstorms up tired of it all but yes you are right 401(k) a lot earlier on would have been a big blessing

I take it that is what happened to you? If so that is terrible. I heard the teamsters officers used its members funds to finance casinos and hotels and stuff like that in the 70s. (Hoffa stuff). Didn't know that still went on in more modern times. It seems the politicians on both sides are interested preserving as well as expanding the 401k model. Sometimes its tough to watch you account balance be so volatile but on the other hand I just can't imagine giving so much of your wage away to some union officer in the hopes that they will do the right thing and it will be there when you retire.

yup, that is why i can't retire yet. i need 4 more years to get full social security.

when i saw the poop show that was about to happen at the last job, i bailed before the feds came in and indicted the owner.

i took a withdrawl card from the union and found out the "all is well" bullshevic they were feeding us was just that, bullshevic.

the pension fund was close to bankrupt, and the annuity fund was so mismanaged that they were "disappearing"  3 dollars for every dollar put in it.

Everyone I ever talked to who had recently retired said they wished they would have done it sooner. I have heard several times that guys thought they wouldn't have enough money but once they start getting social security, pension, and 401k distributions they end up making more in retirement than they did working.

well, that's pretty much my situation. I have a little over $1900 deposited in my account every munt, and by the time you take taxes, insurance, and road expenses out of what I was making, there's not a hell of a lot of difference.

Well if they can live on 15,000 a month, we should be able to live on 1,500 per month because we do not have to pay for security or chauffeurs.

sad part is in the 3-4 yrs you wait , they will change the yr of eligibility. it keeps going up . people (wife included) have same ideas; wait little bit longer and get more.i did some math and figured how much i'm giving up over those yrs of waiting. it's a toss up and everyone's situation is different.

after 35+yrs in union, had a meeting with pension personal. i was told " due to the fact i'm in a union job that doesn't have a union pension, union will be taking $200.oo a MONTH from my retirement fund." i paid in for over 35 yrs in to pension.

Yeah Mecho I was thinking the same thing that’s why I was going to leave in August at first but as I mentioned I would rather get all the expensive repairs done on my house but frankly I’ve had enough and I wish I could leave now……  but I put my 401(k) into TD Ameritrade‘s hands and they have done a fabulous job so far  handling it Bob
