The owner has a tandem sitting out at his house so I thought I would stop and ask him what they story was. He told me he wanted to use the cab and the engine(gas) on a single axle up at his camp. So I asked him if he wanted to sell the single axle and he said he would. The farmer who owned the single axle told him there was a hole in the block. I guess the farmer use to dump a gallon of oil in it when he wanted to use it, and when he was done, most of it was on the ground. So anyway the guy I bought it from got it from the farmer and they dragged it to his camp. 20 years later this is what you have (yes that's a tree growing through the box). Passenger side window broke, passenger side floor rotted, couple of the rear tire feel like they hold air. Its buried about foot in the ground so hard tell if the fronts hold air. Posted on Facebook, so some of you guys have probably seen it, but thought I would toss it on her too. (Roxbury) area. a big chain saw would be needed. and NO the owner would not sell it and DON'T get caught going in the woods to see it. Vladislav Posted July 31, 2020 Share Posted July 31, 2020 My imagination gave me an idea to dig her out alltogether with a piece of the land (I don't know how) and put in your yard keeping the trees in place. Sure kidding. Solid truck from looking the pictures and could be fixed. But would require plenty of TLC and overall paintwork. Of what i would do is 1st try to fire her up, than probably swap a complete engine to Mack diesel and get her running. Than continue with making up the look. Good luck with the project. Was just gonna "like" your post and move on. But... I have seen so many rides left to rot just the way you described. Answer always seemed to be the same: "I'm a-gonna fix 'er up one of these days." Then, you go by there every day for years and just watch them rot away. Finally, the wrecker comes and hauls them away for scrap metal when either the owner or the vehicle is dead. I kinda understand. We hate to let go of our toys. But, we have to be realistic about whether or not we have the wherewithal to do the project or not. Hard to let them go. The main reason I let my R go is because I got to a point where the work I needed to do wasn't something I could do myself or afford to pay someone else for. So, I sold it to a guy who wanted to put it back to work. Many years ago, I was living short-term in an apartment complex on the outskirts of Atlanta. There was a Mustang Shelby GT-500 KR convertible sitting there. The top was rotten, and the rain was starting to work on the interior and the floor boards. Had mushrooms growing in the carpet. Same deal. Had plans to fix-er-up "some day." Some day never comes for many folks. Right now I know where there is a good, solid B-61 that has been partially disassembled to put in a later engine and transmission. Has been like that for several years. mowerman Posted August 3, 2020 Share Posted August 3, 2020 that the reason i almost sold mine ,,im 64 now and not that ambitious now days along with working full time and honeydoos,and just plain relaxing,plus we travel alot thruout the year going to foot races,my wife is a marathon runner,,,and thier always fun...were both always busy....but i finally got my dream garage almost ready to start working on the DM,,,plus i advertized the truck a couple of times,couldnt even get once bite on it...decided to go ahead with restoration,,,,what gets me is i was only 39,when i bought it,with alot more piss and vinager never thought things would take so long to get together.....reminds me of a line in a allen jackson tune,,,,,lordy,dont the wheels turn slow......but 41 chevy is a great inspiration,hes like 67,and is constantly starting new projects...bob 2 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

He drove it home, put it in a heated shop, took the fenders off to have the inner fender wells welded and that’s as far as he got. Ex government truck, told me at one time (1995 or so) he was able to verify the mileage was original 53K, no rust. Just bought a shop last year and am getting ready to start on it. If I can just get it running/drivable I’d be ecstatic. Popular Post mechohaulic Posted August 4, 2020 Popular Post Share Posted August 4, 2020 sold both '49 EE dump and EF flatbed for all reasons above. saved them from scrap yard, I used the EF in hay field, EE plowed a lot of snow for me. time past , work and everything else made yrs go by. trucks sat too long I sold them .now when we moved from CT to TN then back again to CT this yr, I took my DM800 mixer, DM800 wrecker, DM600 dump and others just packed them in boxes and moved:: 1/25 scale models LOL and still they sit in boxes like they have since the late '70's . found a B-61 in Knoxville TN. owner said he's been trying to work on it; that was three yrs ago. tarp covering it is shredding and weather is hitting it. 4 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Sold my DT 921 to a man in the Atlanta area who has it back roadworthy.. My two Brockways went to an avid Brockway restorer in North Carolina.. I watched the "vultures" load up trucks and to the scrap yard they were heading. oldest was a 20's planet jr to the newest a 1949 standardtwin . the twin ran . a 1939 Viking tractor was on top of a load of steel used for fabrication. a lot can be packed in to a 30x50 work shop.
