I have heard rumors that the Mack T2130 transmissions are the same transmissions as the T2180's and that you can convert a 13-Speed Mack to a 18-Speed just by changing the shift knob in the cab.

Is there any truth to this?

To do it the proper way there is also a piece on the trans a plate of some sorts that has to be changed. When I worked at Mack the mechanics did quite a few of these on new trucks that were ordered as 13's and customers changing their minds. This was back in the late nineties.

  Cheers.

The way I have always done it. Is to remove the shifter knob cover. Take the nut and the washers off of the top. Take the two torx headed screws out of the top. Then your knob comes apart in two pieces. Leave the bottom of the knob on the stick. Theres going to be a thin plastic tab on the red compound switch, cut it off and then put the knob back together now you have an 18 speed

Yup Job Done!
