Popular Post h67st Posted January 15, 2021 Popular Post Share Posted January 15, 2021 (edited) My Ralph Smith truck had a new radiator core and shutters put in just before it was taken off the road in the 80's. I took the radiator to the shop to get it cleaned and tested; they said the core was good. The bottom frame was all rusted and broken so they completely rebuilt the bottom. The shutters were really nice except the bottoms were all rusted and seized. I took them all apart and got them cleaned and lubed; they work nice. The actuator was rusted badly but one of my other parts trucks had a nice one on it. The felt wiper inside was bad so I ordered a piece from McMaster Carr. Thankfully the rubber cup was still good. I was looking for a rebuild kit for my filter/lubricator and I found an NOS unit for $40 so I bought it. The rebuild kit number is 1033-01529-01; I saw some for sale on ebay. The lower radiator pipe is solid brass, so I cleaned it up and polished it. Yesterday I primed and painted the engine with Nason Ful-Thane DS138 gray. Eddeere said it's a good match for Mack Power Gray, I like the look of it. It's gray with some green mixed in. Popular Post h67st Posted January 22, 2021 Author Popular Post Share Posted January 22, 2021 I put the engine in today; I pulled the old engine out of this truck in July of 2017 so it's been 3-1/2 years. Strange thing (nothing strange but an optic illusion) the engine looks greeny in the first pictures but much more to blue where it's already in the chassis. Mike Actually the Smith truck is just a parts truck; I'm using the frame rails and rear bogie from a tandem and the cab, engine, and other parts from a single axle that I have. The color I picked is a teal blue. I think the Smith is number 160...it's got more rust than steel in the cab. I'm using the front axle, transmission, and some other parts from it.
