Seat Belt Requirements

Does anyone know when Mack began   installing shoulder belts? My ‘82 Superliner has lap belts only. I’ve seen cars from the ‘70s with both shoulder and lap belts. I can’t find any legal publications on this from the FMCSA. I’d like to find something in writing exempting my truck if that ever gets brought up in an inspection.

If it came with just seat belts when new you are good. I crossed the scales near Hurricane West Va. in a cabover Volvo. The officer stopped me and said put your foot on the brake and I’m gonna open the door. He saw the truck had no shoulder belt. He said ok , you can go.

My 79 is lap only. Never had a problem with cops.

My '89 R model is lap only.

1991 or 1992 is when shoulder belts in trucks were required.  My '92 has them my '89 doesn't . Drove a 90 or 91 that didn't.

Green book should have the reg in writing.
