Went to start  truck but it wouldn't start. Cranked for some time until eventually it dead or so i had though it died must have activated a relay. I put it on a  basic code reader a code came up U1146. ( only code) I tried google it but it wouldn't pop up with a direct problem. Main them comes up is tcm / tcm connection. Would that be a reason for the truck not to start. When I it did have problem I assumed it was the started by the way it cranked. side note two weeks before the truck had an oil change at dealership. all was good. no codes but the bolt light was activated on the dash board and has but every time we take it get check no codes seem to come up. I don't understand what's wrong.

ALLISON AT Code (DTC) U1146 SCP (J1850) Invalid or Missing Data for Vehicle Security

Do believe that would keep the truck from starting or could it be the starter i was set on it being the starter until I got that code. Could a start make the check engine light go off ?

No, a starter would not activate a CEL. What makes you think the starter is bad? You said it cranked over until it didn’t anymore. Batteries dead? Or did the starter die in the process of cranking it over? I’d suggest checking out the harness/connector on the TCM.

Sidenote, don't crank an engine for longer than 10 seconds. You'll overheat the starter and burn it out.  If it cranks but won't start and has a Check Engine Light on there's no sense in killing the batteries and starter.  You're on the right path trying to get this code sorted out.
