Saw this on TruckPaper.  I know sometimes they mess up the descriptions (fat-finger).  But, this one has me scratching my head!  I know Mack lists RDs as far back as '71, and the interior IS the old steel dash.  But, weren't all RDs tandems?  Never heard of an RD300.  Probably a mis-print.  What engine does that look like to you guys?  Notice the square headlights?  Didn't have those in '72.

Interesting-looking truck.  Lots of work apparently done.  Just don't know EXACTLY what is is!

Should spark some interesting discussion, at least!

probably a misprint on the 300 series? need to know the seriel # off the frame, that will tell you alot. looks like a older thermodyne engine that somebody put screw on oil filters, doesn't have a oil cooler. probably a triplex or quad transmission.    terry:MackLogo:

According to Mack, RDs went all the way back to ‘71.

The 3 is pretty close to the 6 on the number pad!

The engine looked odd to me.

like others said, I’d like to see the number on the frame.

Not sure if you’re familiar buddy of mine in California put double stack on a six cylinder they really sound good and not over loud . Best way to make it sound good. If you figure out a way for a offset cab let me know ha ha… Bob

I've seen the dual headlight set up on an RD  . look better . you had to go and mention dual stacks on off set . brain cells still working on a DM800  6X6  1/25 scale. fabricating the eng/trans mounts to put a duel turbo cummins in the 800 . duel stack tractor maybe LOL

Ok since we’re on the subject…. Wait a minute you telling me you bought a 359 Peterbolt just for the engine???????????? Lol bob that’s a sin

yes i did. back in the '70's i bought the challenger mixer kit for the tiny water hose nozzle for the DM800 mixer i was building.  my 352 pete  has 7 model kits combined to make one.

To you guys discussing the model kits...

I used to build those all the time in the '60s-'70s.  Had pretty much every one they made.  Started getting duplicates and "kitbashing" them (mixing and matching parts from the kits).  Did lots of aircraft and NASCAR stuff in the '80s-'90s.

Don't really have the time, eyes, or hands for it much anymore.  Really miss it.  Still have a lot of stuff on the shelf.  Maybe later...

673P with a set of screw on filters like I did to mine.  Did a 711 come with twin intakes like the 673P?

I remember lots of trucks getting the 4 square light treatment way back.  I suppose they wanted to make their old truck look "newer".  To me it looks odd and needs a single round headlight....but that's just me.

I guess what threw me on the engine is the lack of an oil cooler.  I'm not used to seeing them like that.  I think every one I was around had one.

How about when guys would put the headlights from an Eldorado or Toranado ( when they were front wheel drive at first )  I remember that too. I like one big round like they're supposed to be

My 673p had the brass bypass tube just like that one so I'm familiar with it.
