Here are some old tools that I have had for 23+ years..  I believe they are runout tools for E-6 fly wheel housings..  Was hoping there was a 'jig' to cut fire ring grooves in Mack heads..  there was a bunch of cutters in the box.  they are set aside..

Mech, I was hoping you can I.D. these old tools..

apologize for delayed response.  I've enlarged/studied , can say possible === . can't confirm actual usage. checking bell housing run out was a tool having a dial indicator fixed to it connected to crank shaft and spun. I can see how the individual parts are related to each other terms of using. spare dowel pins top right . flat bar with center hole back in the day may have been used for top of sleeve puller.  3 bottom round "pipes" used for different diameter holes in crankshaft not having a bearing ??? very faint part numbers on one . don't recall a grove cutter having this stuff. keep the tools soaking in some oil;;WHEN I drive down to see my sister and some BMT members ,remind me to check that stuff out up close.

7/8'' 12 point  bone wrench..  a home made one is just fine..  cut the box end off of a wrench and weld a 1/2'' drive socket to the cut end, and then you can use a 1/2'' drive breaker bar to get it done..  I think the torque is about 175 lbft..

Alright Mechaholic......    This ones for you..  Here are some of my home made tools.  I have used them many times..   See some of us arent fancy pants..   :) By the way,  ALL of my 7 torque wrenches are ''click type''  not digital, with a beeper..  :)

Any guess's as to which tool is the best one??   :)  She's polishing the crank journals for me.

unique the spring pin shackle set up. I have/had similar  setup on liner hold downs used for wet sleeve DD . 3 flat washer brazed together  looked like rear view of maxi transmission counter shafts. one bolt the washers held two liners down. relooking at picture two -thought that was a liner tool not a liner with rod welded in middle. are those liners that short now or angle of picture. "new "liners don't go full length of cyl anymore ??? changing times.

i cut a liner short so that i can pull it out with ease..  works like a charm..  I set 6 liners today .. all within .001'' per bank..

The shackle is my home made 'sled gauge'..  I check liner height with it..

Most of my tools are old......

I don't have much in the way of specialized tools, but I have a plasma cutter, a hi-lift jack and a BFH!  :)

One of my earliest tool memories is hearing that a BFH and a long handle punch were two of the most important tools to have.

Well, I made the best of my 3 day weekend..  5 hours each day in the shop.  the engine is clean, primered, the liners are in, and the crank is in and done.. I sorted out the old parts from the good parts, and prepped a set of connecting rods. I need to get 4 new deck dowels, and a buttress bolt from Mack tomorrow, so I can load pistons and install the heads..

Thanks for reading my post guys,,  I know it's not super exciting, but I figure someone may see something they need to know, or offer advice to me..  :)   Jojo

what kind of comment is """it's not super exciting "" !! only thing more exciting is hearing those engines run.. #2 = I need to know your paying hourly rate. I know I'm alot slower now  but working in a clean shop building engines '' I'm in. LOL

You crack me up Mech..  If we were closer, I would be proud to have you in my shop.  Hourly rate??  not sure,,  would $25/hr cash be too little??   :)   I dont charge too much to build them.  Typically my customer buys the parts per my request, then if the engine is in the truck, my labor is $5,000.00..  if its and ASET-C in-frame I add $500.00 more.  Out of the truck and in my shop, it's $4,000.00 for labor, and if the wire harness needs to be repaired, it's $50/hr plus materials for that additional repair..

Basically, I can build a Mack E-Tech/ ASET/ or E-7.  For around $15,000.00.  new heads raise the price, based on market price,  Turbo's, are decided on early in the job,
