Passive regen occurs when the engine load and speed allow the temperature of the exhaust to get above like 650 or so. Also stay there long enough to burn off the soot. If you had a massive exhaust leak(s) then yes I could see that being the cause.

Has your driving style changed or location of where you typically are driving? You can seal that up pretty easily. Just get the aluminum gasket and two new clamps. One for the turbo and the one in the picture.

Just an update  i changed the 9 dollar gasket  an put a new clamp on it . Dpf soot level stayed the same all day while paving.  Went home on the turnpike and passive regen brought down soot level. Only way I saw leak was during a forced regen hope this helps someone
