In front of the fuel pump, passenger side, on base of block, behind radiator fan, is a hole..that spins with engine running...obvious oil weep coming from the area. What goes here? Recently bought Mack truck for a workhorse.  Trying to make sure she runs, and continues too.

Tach drive.  I aasume the tach on the dash does not work.

What is the black tube hanging in the front of the picture?  Looks like a tach cable.

Appreciate the responses. I'll take a look at tach situation...should have thought of that. How is it supposed to attach? It looks sheared? Any issue getting dirt in there if left removed?  Usually shift with a bit of finesse and the ears anyways...

They are just like a speedo drive on an older car or truck. push in and tighten the large knurled knob to hold it in place..  the end of the tach cable should have a keyed end that fits in the hole.  it may be a square end and you put the correct plastic tip on it..  jojo

The drive end that is in the block looks good..  the cable is what needs to be checked..  Is that the old cable in the picture?  it comes from the back of the tach, through the firewall, and around the engine to that drive hub that you see..  jojo

Hard to see the picture.  Maybe the nut is there but the sleeve was broken off.  Should be able to unscrew the threaded nut easy enough.
