Thanks for that. I did mention. I found one exhaust valve too tight most everything else was pretty close. I’m hoping maybe that will cure  my issue. I also thought of that. I don’t think it’s ever been changed. It sure doesn’t look like it.

Unless someone has tampered with the injector pump it shouldn't need adjustment

They are all gear driven so it shouldn't of moved

Yes, I thought of that but like a car back in the day with a.(NORMAL)distributor would need adjustment occasionally

technically it's not the pump needing adjustment from it's own fault. like the distributor setting ; adjustment of the pump is to compensate for all the rest of the engine wear and tear. front eng drive train has a number of gears between crank and inj  pump gear. and we ALL know with age parts wear out.

Not a E6 Mack motor , they last for ever :SMOKIE-LFT:, Barry we need a R model one of these picture things

Or a DM or U Model for this thread

Back in the dim dark days when dinodoors (that's how my boy said when he was maybe 3 years of age) some of the early diesels had timing chains for the injector pump and cam etc

These old buckets of bolts needed regular adjustment to keep them starting and running

Starting old diesels was a big enough drama

Now on a old Cat diesel motor they need timing because the lifters in those old injector pumps are like lifters on valves, if the the clearance is to great the timimg is to retarded and if the clearance is to small the timing is adavanced

On a E6 Mack motor, they are set and forget

Cummins are like a Cat as are 2 stroke Detroit's

Mack motors are spot on once set correctly

All those other buckets of bolts need timing adjustment

If your gears are that badly worn your gunna have a lot bigger issue like no oil pressure or bent valves

Anyway, enough waffle from me

Go and check the timing

Accessive smoking was the original problem

Usually white smoke is late timing.

Could be a bunch of other things too. Cold, low compression, bad nozzle spray pattern, fuel contaminated with a bunch of gas will all make white smoke too

Ive been following Bob for a few years now... It would be great if he could drive it around and get it really heated up and get it to work a bit.. i hope it just clears up..  running it in the yard yields bad results in his case...  Bob?? You listening ??

I hope its not water..

It's a 2 valve 672 cubic inch block and heads. I haven't seen many of them get water into the cylinder. Sleeve is dry, and the heads don't crack into the water jacket much. I've seen some leak from the head gaskets, but that was external seepage

If this helps anybody it’s not consistent sporadic throw  a couple of puffs I then it goes away for a few seconds maybe 10 when it comes back again on and off it’s not steady also mentioned a buddy of mine down there and California recommended that to me a long time ago about advancing the pump slightly that also works that was his first suggestion when I mentioned the issue norm Taunton… some  of you know him
