About to install these sassy new front springs in my 75 R model.   I have never messed with Mack front springs before, and im curious about these threaded spring pins.   What is the best method to remove them?  Is there to tool to fit over the slot or can I put a wrench on it to spin them?

Also, what are the pros and cons of threaded pins?

Many thanks

My experience has always been easy. Just un-screw the old ones with a wrench..  since they are probably worn out, they should be loose anyway..  the front pins should be smooth.  once the front end is supported, you remove the shackles, then un screw the pins..  You got this..

Yep, they are easy to get out. Often when the pin is worn out so is the bushing. Since the ones in the springs are new, those should be fine. The fixed one on the frame may need to be replaced.

IHC used threaded in all positions, others may not.

Nice, that's good news.

Ah ok, didn't realize the shackles have to come off also.  But that makes sense.

Thanks fellas

Supposedly the pro's of threaded pins is it increases the surface area and grease contained. I never liked them myself. Plain pin in a bronze bushing, replace when worn is my choice.

one Pro. is that the threaded spring pins dont shift side to side, when worn..  pins and smooth bushings are really good too, hell they have been around forever..

Yes.. I have had to remove the rear hanger before, in order to replace the bushing.. it can be several hours of work, due to battery boxes and mud flap mounts, and so-on..

Yeah, but a threaded pin does nothing to help remove the bushing, hanger still has to come out to replace the bushing if you don't have access.

Yep..  I have checked d the new pin inside the old bushing for fitment. On rare occasions I had to leave them alone..  not the best procedure ..
