Ive been on top in early summer. It was in the 70's at the base, and snowing at the top.  I also rode a street bike to the top.  It was a great ride..  especially coming down...  The White Mountain National Forest is beautiful.

Last Thursday, February 29th, was very windy in the northeast, wind gusts on Mt. Washington reached 147 miles an hour. The Mount Washington Observatory has a FB page, they post some fantastic photos from the top of New England.

1965 for me and end of july beginning of august, we were on our way to Quebec to take my great aunt to see family as she did not drive.

in the family station wagon. 65 galaxy wagon with 390/4 barrel and auto trans. just barely made it to the top.

we were up there just long enough to see it was not a wise idea to hang around as a storm was blowing in. we actually saw it coming at us.

so dad decided time to go. about quarter way down the mountain it hit. by halfway, visibility was almost zero and snow covered everything. about three quarters down the car started sliding. only time i ever saw my father scared. we made it, and the next day he vowed we would never climb a mountain in a car ever again...... and he kept his word!!

when you are up to your armpits in alligators,

it is hard to remember you only came in to drain the swamp..

it is one of the few memories of my childhood Bob.

on the same trip we had a bear in the campsite in upstate NY.  mom freaked out and made us all sleep in the car instead of the tent.

then went to the town dump (which was about a mile away on the farm) and my cousin gave me a 22 where we spent a few hours shooting rats. also went fishing in the farm pond and was introduced to perch.

the father was province mayor, and he was also the largest cattle farm owner in the province. also owned the cheese factory, and milk processing plant. and i have never been back. don't even know if any of them are still alive.

A nice fall day, October 9, 2024, on Mt. Washington, NH. We left the base station on the Cog Railway where it was sunny; got to the top and it was snowing with a wind chill of 12 degrees. While there were no mountain views at least we got to experience a little of what its like on the mountain in winter time.

I have been up it twice. the first time was 1950 when I was 5 years old.. We went up in one of their souped up Ford/Mercury station wagons and my grandmother rode the cog wheel railroad.. The second time was in June of 2019 and again rode in their wagon, and had good weather on top..

Brocky

I owned a R700 that was bought new in 77 by a local man who was hauling fuel to the summit that summer.  Not many folks can wear that bumpa stickah that reads, This Car Climbed Mt Washington on their Mack

Remember if it's got a hood it's no good!

There's a really good book, Marty on the Mountain. He started up there in 54 i think. And was the last radio man to work the old TV buliding for the Portland station. Has a lot of intresting stories.  Like the orignal Cat generators and how you had to sync em to swap engines. Its a great read
