Hi yall I hope I am creating the right post for my question. I’m new here. Anyways. I have a 1997 ch600. I’m having issue with the engine shutdown light. Lately it’s been happening now that it’s hot outside and only loaded.  The light will turn on and after a couple of minutes of driving, the truck will turn off. At first the oil pressure would drop at truck would shut down. Pressure no longer drops. Water temp slightly increases but never in the red. I had ONLY the electric malfunction light on when I turned the key after it shutdown but hasn’t happened again.  We have changed the alternator and coolant sensor so far. Next is the oil pressure sensor. Any leads are appreciated!

"97 is way to new for me , based on the knowledge BMT  members post and old mechanical thoughts; don't you get codes explaining the fault?? what are the gages reading.?? as noted - now that it's hot outside and loaded . temp going hot by gage?? fan kicking on ?? changed the sensor but what is actual engine doing??

Are you low on coolant?

Not sure about the 1997, but the E7 ETECH engines use 2 oil sensors, one for the dash gauge and the other for the EECU or VECU. You need to make sure you replace the one for computers if that's the cause of the shutdowns.  I'm guessing this engine is vmac I or vmac ii, I don't think vmac III was rolled out yet.   If by chance it's vmac III you should be able to pull blink codes out of the check engine light.

Typically the engine shutdown light is controlled by low coolant level and low oil pressure.  Possibly high water temp too.

You changed the coolant level sensor or the coolant temp sensor?

He has only 1 oil sensor and 1 live line to the gauge. There is a timing sensor in the flywheel housing, and a duetch plug on the injection pump.. i dont see where he states if its full mechanical, but i dought it is..

To add, the truck technically doesn’t overheat. Water temp will go a bit over 180 but never in the red. At first The oil pressure would drop then shut down instantly but no longer does that. Now it just shuts off. We can’t get it scanned bc it only happens when I’m loaded. Idk what else to look for besides pressure sensor and oil pressure pump.
