I will do that joey.i think it would be worth it too.i want to be sure its in top condition before putting a new turbo on it.its a bit of a set back to the plans for painting it as the cost of the turbo has to come out of the budget for paint.but we will get there just take a bit longer.....thanks for all the help.

Hi all, well my son and i spent a few hours going over the exhaust ports and manifold with a bore scope and we could not see anything cracked chiped or broken.where ever this piece of iron came from we cant say.im going to bring the scope out to the turbo guy and look at the exhaust turbine houseing.its all we can think of next to look at.the oil feed pipe is UNF thread and we're in metric land so we are looking for a fitting to block it so we can start the engine.thats where we are  now.thanks for your intetest guys.

Hi all, some really bad news for our Cruiseliner.i took the metal object to a metal recycleing center who tested it to see what it actualy made of.they said its chrome steel.so now im thinking valve, valve seat or cylinder liner.only things i can think of made of that type of steel.im going to do a cylinder leak down test as im afraid to even turn the engine over let alone start it.we bore scoped the heads manifold and exhaust turbine houseing and cant see anything chiped, broken or missing.any of you out there that have any idea of where chrome steel could come from?id be very interested.

bro it was running when you turned it off! Correct?  Anyway only place i can think off is valve seat and or piston insert or ring ! Liners are cast ! the shape is confusing ! A melted piston would have been running bad! a broken ring is not that shape! Don't have any answers for ya! I would run it my self  as Joey suggested ! The damage  if any  is already done!! some one along the line has accidently left something in the exhaust in my opinion ! a piece of old gasket or something!

I'm in the group of people who say the worse is already done, so start it and run it long enough to make an assessment of its condition. May be something that was wedged somewhere that broke loose, or it may be more serious. At this point it can't make it a bigger problem. As you said it ran good. If it was clanking and banging before it stopped, I'd be more concerned.

Cant thank you all enough for your support.the piece of metal must have been left behind by someone else.love to know where it came from but i doubt ill ever find out...

It pays to not get too trigger happy! And not to over think stuff! Weigh out all the evidence and proceed with caution all of which you have done! Also very happy for you! Now all ya need is a turbo hopefully you’ll find the parts and all will be good! While you got it apart do a valve set and tiddle things up while waiting for the turbo!

Hi all, well new turbo is on the way as well as the parts to rebuild the shift tower and UJs on shift linkage. Is there a torque setting for manifold studs or is it just tight as you can get then? Same on turbo studs.? Just want her to be perfect.thanks
