Question

I have a 2000 ch613 that recently started clicking in the high range gears. It's a 10 speed and it mostly does it in gear 4, which is the 1st high range gear. And it only does it when I let off the accelerator and the engine is slowing the truck down. It clicks and feels like it's coming out of gear. Not sure what it might be please help!!

Like we have been saying for 2 decades now....  They make it so that a good mechanic cant make repairs because of the rules and regs dictated by Volvo for example, couple that with the required tools to do the repair, cost sooo damn much money, that it in some cases is not worth buying if you dont have a steady flow of a particular truck model. It forces you to go to the dealership..  And of course you have the computerized side of repairs also.....   To me, the truck makers are going to put their reputation on the line if folks just stop buying trucks, because of the crazy high maint. costs..

Might not be the worst thing, but in some cases the techs suck ( one month at Freightliner...couple months later at Kenworth )  or the service "writer" determines the tech can't actually do the repair (lol)  or if you're lucky, a combination of both, plus the ever knowledgeable factory technitan that answeres the volley of emails and reviews the diagnostics sent to them then determines what the problem is.  Proprietary stuff wouldn't be the worst thing if they could actually get the !#ck'n thing fixed.  Doesn't seem to ever work out that way often.  First and foremost though.....make sure there's payment for every inch of this whole process.

Well said MarkT..  I always think of the 'little guy' the one who is trying to keep the family trucks moving, or trying to start out and needs to have a million dollars in order to earn a half a million...

Yea I was hoping to avoid taking it to mack because I already know how expensive that's going to be. The truck was in a head on collision about 2-3 years ago. Driver said the other person ran the light, but my insurance ended up paying for the other car and police report said he ran it 🤷🏽‍♂️  I'll post some pictures, it hit on the passenger side front headlight area and was enough to bend the frame slightly. I'm thinking this might have been when the mount cracked. At that time I decided never to let another driver touch my truck because they always find some way to damage something 🙄

I'm going to drain the transmission oil today. I removed the side covers of the rear ends and didn't see anything that looked bad, but I'm not a differential specialist or anything. I'll drain those rears either today or tomorrow.

Thanks for all the help guys 🙏🏻

i suggest you drain the oil through a large strainer or colander..  You can get a cheap one at the dollar store..  this way you can see what comes out..  hopefully just oil..

Something i just noticed, broken mount on the drivers side. Think this could affect it? It only clicks and jumps a little bit when I let off the accelerator in high gears. I can drive it all day without it doing anything if I keep even a tiny bit of pressure on the accelerator...

Start with what you know is broken. Fix this trans mount and see if the clicking goes away.

I just went back to the start of this thread...  it's a 2000 CH-613,  been wrecked,,  broken tranny mount,,  one thing I forgot about was the shifter inner boot, til now...  any chance the inner boot is still there, and is adding to the issue?  the tranny mount (rear engine mount)  needs to be replaced, but if the inner boot is still there, it needs to be cut out and thrown away..  there was a svc. buletin about this, 20+ years ago..

Ok. The metal on the plug is common, yes looks scary but...  As far as the boot, do you have the round shifter boot that pops in the floor pan? If so, there is a second boot under it, and it can pop the shifter out of gear when you let off the throttle...

as far as my book set goes...  I was hoping to find a buyer for a set at $500.00.....  Each book values at $50.00 for the small ones, and $100.00+ for the big ones..  But in your case you may only need 1 book..  Not trying to sell you anything just feel like posting my thoughts..  Unfortunately, there isn't a large demand for what I have, even though these books are important..  No-one is re-building Mack drive trains anymore...  its all automated tranny's and laptops for diagnostics..  jojo

It's even worse when it comes to warranty or even newer techs in the process of learning: letting eService direct the diag!! Our good techs complain how ridiculous it is to sit and wait for them to reply on a decision when they know exactly what's wrong.

Great news, so well and truely worth pulling the transmission

It is a big job if you haven't done it before, if you have done it, it is a big job

Now you know a lot more about the truck and the transmission

A great result

He deffinatley got an eduction..  a well deserved one at that..  What he learned about Mack synchro's on this carries over to any other Mack tranny's in his fleet..  same/same..

I found The main issue with this post was the comment Clicking! Very confusing comment for a syncro failure ! Usually its posed as a Grinding sound! In my opinion it sent us all down the wrong path to start with! I'm happy he got it sorted thou just sayin!
