That’s beautiful.  I have not seen it before.

I should have posted the pictures in reverse order on flickr, they're kind of backwards, but oh well.

Well, I’m glad you got your gas problem figured it out. I was starting to think you had a forever problem besides being a complete lemon ha ha I like when you said Xena from Florida was more pissed than you were.

Oh yes, she was absolutely pissed!

Looks excellent Tom and yes that’s what they used to tell us in the 70s was to hook it to the battery. I don’t know what’s up with that but I think it was cut cut out all the engine noise frankly I never liked the idea anyway especially on a company truck. But it’s probably a good idea.

Problem with Hooking up to the battery is you have to remember to turn the radio off, or it can kill the battery if sitting a while

The reason they say to hook to battery is some of the bigger radios use up to 20 amp draw. And most fusebox circuits are only under 10 amps.

I hook to the battery through a 30 amp relay that is triggered to a key on power source.

it is hard to remember you only came in to drain the swamp..

The dash plaques made me suspicious that this was one of Jimmy Wood’s trucks so I looked through all your photos which confirmed it. I always loved that truck. I bought one of Jimmy’s fleetstars earlier in the year.   Have fun with it.

Yep, as you can see that one spot was about the only place all the way across the dash that was open. I said "oh, here's a good spot for the speaker". Never thought about the hand brake. It was pulled back when I put the speaker there. Oh well, I'll find somewhere to put it.

We always mounted the cb on top of the dash with the external speaker on top of the cb..but I guess it all depends on the truck and your own preference..

Yeah, that wouldn't work in this truck. The steel dash is only about 3 inches wide.

I do have an old cobra 23 channel my father-in-law left me when he passed I will set it up on my garage one of these days and see if I can reach some of the brothers pulling out in the morning don’t know if it will do anything hasn’t been used since the 70s

Age should not nake any difference. Antenna and power source are usually the culprits.

The cobra 29 classic in the other truck died. So I put an old 23 channel ssb sidebander 2 in it until I could get a new radio.

The boss loves it and asked if he could buy it.

It sat on the shelf better part if 30 years also and still out performs the connex CX33HPC-1 10 meter radio I have in my truck

That's the same model Connex that I used to run. It was a good radio, I used it since the old 2006 Peterbilt says. But when I tried to cram it into the space that was supposedly made for a CB something on the back of it shorted out on something in the hole and smoked it. It was substantially bigger than the Cobra 29 I had in there at first. That's the main reason I bought the Stryker, I saw an ad for it in some trucking magazine and it said it was made smaller just so it would fit in those overhead compartments. It's a nice little radio too, it used to "walk the dog" in the other truck. It's been on the shelf since I retired.

I like that it displays the SWR every time you key the mike too.

i was always a fan of the galaxy radios. i had a 959, then moved up to the DX88. but the new overheads need a front port mike, so the galaxy was out. my radio guy said the connex was the next best thing to the galaxy 88, so i picked it up 6 years ago.

only thing i do not like about it is there is no frequency meter, so it is kind of hard to know what channel you are on without an external frequency meter.
