But in what now appears to be just a political stunt, Trump has struck some of his strongest supporters. Many counties across California’s rural Central valley – home to much of its roughly $59bn agricultural industry – backed Trump in the last election, forming a red strip at the heart of the blue state. “It is almost mind-boggling that this has happened,” said Thomas Holyoke, a professor of political science and water expert at California State University, Fresno, calling the act a “ridiculous blunder”. Experts, who were left scratching their heads in the aftermath, have found no justification for the order. The reservoirs were not at risk of overflowing and irrigation is not necessary during the wetter winter months. These releases also did not support threatened ecosystems such as those in the Sacramento-San Joaquin delta, where contentious debates continue about flows and diversions. Some have suggested the flows will help bolster groundwater stores, “but a lot of that water will end up evaporating,” said Holyoke. “It’s just going to be water lost – and they know it.” Adam Schiff would appreciate you posting that. No one in water management was given time to inspect the systems and set up any needed relays or manage down stream flood gates, aqua ducts and sluces ??? "I'm not sure we should be sending $50 million in condoms anywhere. Frankly, I'm not sure that's something Americans would be really excited about. "Upon expiration of the Day 1 hiring freeze and implementation of the hiring plan, agencies will be able to hire no more than one employee for every four employees that depart from federal service." Government functions related to public safety, immigration enforcement, or law enforcement will not be subject to the hiring ratio. Trump has also imposed a 10% tariff on Chinese goods and Ford parts are produced there. Farley warned that the tariffs could have a “devastating impact” on US automakers, eliminating billions in profits and disrupting jobs. “President Trump has talked a lot about making our US auto industry stronger, bringing more production here, more innovation to the US, and if his administration can achieve that... it would be one of the most signature accomplishments,” says Farley. However, he says the President's current approach is unsettling and has created significant “policy uncertainty.” ---------------------------------------------------------- I say Ford has had problems for some time, long before President Trump took office. Ford dealers are still sitting with some 2023 product, and an ocean of 2024 product. Last year during the Biden administration, Ford built twice as many Broncos as it sold. The error falls squarely on Farley's shoulders.....not President Trumps. And then you have the numerous recalls at Ford, from Maverick hybrid fires to Bronco hardtops and shock absorbers. Ford indeed has challenges, but they've been happening for some years now. I like Jim Farley, as he's a true car guy. He owns a 1966 Ford GT and races it. This bizarre law allowed the government to impose US law on foreign soil. Imagine you're a US company doing business in South Korea and you give a company's leader a gift. It's a legal action in South Korea, but the US calls it a bribe and charges you with a crime. I say that overseas, US companies are subject to the laws of that country, and US law has no standing within that sovereign country. The Foreign Corrupt Practices Act unfairly hobbles American companies while foreign rivals not so encumbered swoop in. “The act sounds good on paper but in practicality, it’s a disaster.
