The key with exhaust temps is RPM. There is a difference between pulling with an EXT of, say, 1100 degrees at 1200RPM and 1100 degrees at 2000 RPM. The more air you pump through the cylinders the less effect those high temps will have. This does not mean that keeping the RPM high negates any concern but, rather, if the RPM is LOW, any high exhaust temps will be much more likely to cause damage.

Heat and pressure are on the top of the piston longer at lower speed. Simple as that. When the volume increases (piston goes down) temp drops. ( gas law) since we're talking about an enclosed space, it comes down to volume increase, pressure decrease= temp decrease.

Time at peak pressure/peak temp is less.

At low speed the pressure rises faster than the piston can move, resulting in high pressure and heat on the piston.

If you are in the operating range of the engine egt shouldn't be high.

Thought folks would like to know, that the frame rails on the CH are 34”apart.  My B is suppose to show up next week I think is 33.5, so they may work ok.

Don't forget, this is a toy, he's not puling a loaded trailer around. I'm not seeing a heat problem bobtailing or pulling a camper going to car shows

I thought they got rid of the limited likes few months ago

Yeah I ran up against that limit somehow, and I'm in my sixties and really don't like anybody

I was in the same boat you are in I have a b42 converted to diesel I used an air ride cut off from an international it’s now tandem air ride instead of single with springs . It had 6.17 gears when I got it had original gas rear in it then changed to 4.61 gears that let me go a about 55 with a tall tires don’t know the gearing of the tandems but it has way more road speed now as for the front axle I used a complete axle out of a school bus so I have modern hub pilot wheels and brakes the engine is just a 673 that I added a turbo to I gave it extra fuel and that was it and it don’t seem to run hot on the pryo I feel your truck would be lots of work to fit all the sheet metal on the newer frame but it’s doable the steering box in front of the axle would not work because the b model front clip ends at the front spring mounts Maby you could move it back to have power steering as for the axle widths the newer frame slipped right over my frame and I just bolted it but my frame rails are not as tall as a modern truck I lost most of my pictures of when I did the work but they should all be on here congrats on the cool project

That is what I am trying to to but no luck. However you can find it at “Canadianrodder” forum, then search “ project gunsmoke”. Let me know if you find it.

Thats a big undertaking

Great work going on there

Took me a little while to find it. Well worth the look.  Lots of nice work there.

A lot of ENDT675 parts can be used. I even saw a guy use fire ring maxidyne liners in an old 18 Stud END673 one time. He cut the grooves in the head and modified the Maxidyne head gasket

Then again, we're noy sure the OP has a 673, he could have a 711. Not sure how available liner kits are for a 711 anymore

Once it shows up here, then we will know for sure what engine is in it.  The fella I bought it from has never even tried to turn it over.

maybe you will get lucky and just have to free the rack in the injector pump, and pour some lube in the cylinders and let it sit for a few days to free the engine up so it can roll over.

when you are up to your armpits in alligators,

it is hard to remember you only came in to drain the swamp..

Pull the injectors..  or....  turn the engine upside down for a week or 2 then turn it back upright for a week or 2

Here is a picture of a 673 piston, you can see the oil holes for the oil ring, if the engine is upside down with oil in the pistons it will seep through these holes,  Maybe drain the 15w40 out, flip it over, pull the pan, and put ATF or a 5w oil in each piston..  just a thought..

i like pulling the injectors and giving each a good shot of ATF mixed with 40% acetone. then place the injectors back in the holes and let sit for a week or so.

then pull the injectors back out and bar the engine over by the crank bolt on front of the engine. you wat at least 1 full revolution of the engine before throwing power to the starter.

leaving the injectors out while baring over mean you will not have to fight engine compression.

but put the injectors back in the holes when done so no moisture can get in the cylinders.

pulling the injectors will also allow you to scope the cylinders and pistons with a bore camera.
