The LT might bring some money. The little L cab needs a bit of work. The 281 single axle wrecker is interesting, but no under reach and the wrecker is kind of light and no serious winching capacity, so that is just a toy too. It's not like you could put it to work. Other than the LT I don't see anything bringing five figures

I followed an auction not long ago, in the last year or so, just because I like these GMC D860s. I thought "man, I'd love to have that truck". And the dang thing sold for somewhere around a hunnert grand.

Trucks like that ?  Usually the decision to buy is driven by emotion. So there's no telling what someone is willing to pay for it. ( and sometimes the seller is driven by the same thing )  It's a fickle market.  Hard item to attach a price to.

When Tom died he had a lot of cool trucks, Heavy spec L cab stuff and all kinds of things. All kinds of conditions, lots of them ran and drove. All the collectors that wanted them so bad wanted to pay less than scrap value. So much of it ended up going over the scale at Allegheny Iron. From my experience most collectors talk a great story, but never come with the cash. They want you to hold on to stuff while they think about it, and talk BS

I knew Tom well.  I have two of his trucks.  He had well over a hundred when he died but they were all kept outside and many of them were in terrible condition.  That L model was nice. I considered buying it but chickened out. I think they were asking $7000 for it.  Did you buy it?  
 

The cement mixer was a great deal.  I considered buying it but didn’t want to pay to have it hauled to PA.
 

If this Kenworth looks as nice as it did, I’d give $10,000 for it.  Have him call me.

No Eugene ended up with it, But after he died in March of 2015 everything turned into a cluster F, then his wife died and I lost track of everything.

How about John Griffin from this place on Masher street. He had all the Brockways. I used to keep in tough with his grandson Stevie, but I think It's been like 10 years since I've talked to him

John was in the SEPA chapter of ATCA. I knew him through that.  They sold some of his Brockway parts at Macungie about 6 years ago.   I think the family kept one or two of his trucks.

If you look at the picture of the LF dump, you can see John's single axle Brockway wrecker. I believe it is a 1946. John towed with that truck all the way up until the late 1990's pretty regularly. The last time I saw him use it, I helped him hook up a ford L9000 beside Eugene's shop on East Tioga, and I had to help him get up in the cab of the Brockway. And off he went to Allentown to drop it off. No Idea how he got it dropped there maybe somebody helped him. Last I talked to Stevie (his grandson) he still had that and the Green KW T600 John bought new

It’s pretty sickening to see stuff like that. Go to scrap. I’ve mentioned this before a lot of times potential buyers with money live in areas where your can’t really keep stuff like that homeowners association condo stuff like that …. Nosy  neighbors complaining about everything you do. Then again a lot of of us with the room are too far away from deals like that.

Hazleton Pa, in a 9,000 plus square foot garage on 3 acres. It was one of the maintenance shops for a local mining operator.

I did some repairs for Yamulla back in the 70's when I was a cat mechanic spent about a week up in their striping's replacing the steering clutches on a d-8 in January I was in that building quite a few times. I don't miss the working outside in the winter I remember changing a water pump on a 270 cummins along r-81 in a snow storm another time changing brakes on a Freightliner outside in the snow

nobody would miss any of that. It doesn’t seem to get anywhere near as bad back there as it used to. I don’t know. I moved out of there 45 years ago growing up back there it seems like that’s all I did was snow and freeze bob

That is your typical owner operator steel hauler pulling coils out of The USS Fairless Works in the 1970's. They would all be leased to Tryon, Cannon, Pyle Transport etc. There were guys running with the tag from their pickup truck, regrooved recaps, home heating oil for fuel, hissing air leaks, trucks that had to be parked on a hill so they could start them from a roll, coolers full of beer in the cab,. 

I remember an older guy from my neighborhood driving for my buddy's father got to the gate at the mill, and opened the passenger door and it fell off and smashed his toe. And my buddy's dad blamed him for "Opening the door wrong". They got in a fight and didn't talk for years lol

I think some see the quad headlights, small sleeper and twin sticks, and go all to pieces.

I was surprised on what the LTL brought, but it was a nice truck in good condition, with all the modern powertrain.

Another thing that gets lost when people see what auction results bring.

That was at a specialty auction with enough vehicles and other stuff to bring in collectors. That is not the same as trying to sell a single vehicle.

True, you can consign to an auction somewhere, but you have to bring it there, and hope that the rest of the stuff generates enough interest to bring in the "right" buyers. Otherwise it may bring far less than you expect. Many of those (all?) were not road registered so would have to be trucked to an auction if sold individually. 

Big enough collection to have an auction of its own, can make all the difference in price.

And that Wrecker. I know where there is a late 70's 359, 400 cummins, 750 Holmes with a Kemp conversion. Running driving truck, the guy is using it. Only thing I saw is it needs some suspension bushings. And I could have it for less than 20K. A 750 with a Kemp conversion is still a serious recovery truck, they were tough as nails
