I'd love to have a six and a four in my one dump truck. 73000.....I have no doubt the 6 speed would be enough. The 4 way ?????  that'd be more for the cool factor. Like when someone asks if it's one of those things from Four States (lol)  except it'd be the real thing. Then there's something about being able to drive something like that in this day and age.

Mark, that sounds pretty cool.. If i ever own and old Mack i would like it to have at least a 12 spd. I will never need the gears but it would just be cool.  I know i would do through all the gears just to play around..  Goofy i guess.

Not goofy at all.

You know that 8041 box is pretty strong in direct. It's locked straight through so there is no power going through the countershaft. If you put it behind your existing trans, and put it in direct, then just drive it the same way you drive it now. Just use the low when you need it, and if you want to go fast or save fuel, use the overdrive. Just don't beat on it while power is flowing through the countershaft.

I repowered a Grove TM250 with a 290 small cam, 9 speed over, and the even lighter 60 something Spicer. It was a gasser and I needed the overdrive because the rears were so low

WTF why can't I have that kind of energy now? This getting old thing sucks

1750 is the one now.  1241s are still around, but I'd rather the 1750.  The part I don't like is the extra several hundred pounds it'll all add to the truck.

doing all the gears isn't always that easy , back in the delivery days of NYC  a "co-driver " who couldn't drive had to start out in first no matter what and go through all 10. one time at last delivery aiming down hill ; trailer empty ; he couldn't start out in 2nd might have even used 3rd. what a mess. flat ground having fun all gears ready.

back in the Mack days learning myself on the 20's/18 twin sticks always used every gear. picking up two new trucks from new haven truck rental for warranty one a quad other five speed; I took the quad (DM611SX ). I stopped at stop sign other driver behind me (totally wasted on beer) never saw my brake lights cause I used the gears not brakes to stop. he put the two DM rails through the radiator of the R he had. he ruined a good thing. we were paid $10.oo for a two hr trip . $5.oo an hr was major money for me.

Damn I'm getting obsolete just like my beloved 1241.

And this is for a triaxle? How big of an engine?

I'm figuring the 1750 is 17,000 FP input. I guess a 2000 FP  engine in low gear in the main box

It's a tri-axle.  It's only an MX13.   The 1750 is the latest and probably the last design. If I'm not mistaken, the first gear isn't 2 to 1.  It's just a little lower than what was always "under" then they still have a little bitty overgear ( like .87 or something )   there's no real reason I want it other than I just want a 6 and a four.  1241 would work fine too for me.

MX13

How do you like the Paccar engine? Some of those MX13 are like 500 HP aren't they?

It's a 510 🤭 it's no ISX. It's got plenty of power , an awesome engine brake, and you don't have to drive it like a totally gay guy to get good mileage with it. Plus they're several hundred pounds lighter than a big Cummins. Cheaper initially.  Support for them sucks, and they're a huge turn off at resale time.

I must be getting old, 510 sounds like a lot of power in a dump. What kind of power is normal for these fleet operators anymore? Like the ones I see running into that place across  the street when it's busy.

The 565 Cummins is pretty popular and they run pretty good. Macks? 505 . The trucks with the Detroits, I'm thinking their 13 liter is around 500 and their big bore is like 600.  All of them have a lot of torque anymore, especially from off idle into the 12 to 15 hundred RPM range.   You'd be surprised if you were to try any of them.  The X15 is the hot one though.

yup, the X15 is the hot ticket. with an 18 speed you can get up to 600HP.

with the 4500 RSD Allison you are limited to 565 HP. which is plenty. at 80,000  pounds with 4.56 gears it will walk away from most loaded trucks. i have had a few 120k+ loads and still pulled large bridges gaining speed. empty i am faster off the line than most cars if i want to be.

we have one quarry where the cars all line up left lane to cross the highway, then 200yards up the road try to make a right hand turn across 4 lanes from the left lane.

we have gotten wise to them and leave them hanging in the left lane sitting there with their blinkers on until all the trucks go past.

then the local cops pull them over and give them obstructing traffic tickets.

if i hammer head the dump, i can go as low as 3 mpg. if i drive sanely i can get as high as 9 mpg on the highway loaded.

when you are up to your armpits in alligators,

it is hard to remember you only came in to drain the swamp..

Mark? It seems to me that KW is currently making a dump truck that is superior to a Mack.  Am I reading this right ?  We have a T-600 (i think) it has an Allison 6 spd. I drove it on site for a day and was impressed by how smooth it operated, and was also impressed by all the switches it had , especially the axle controls for traction. Locking rear and a locking power divider.  It happened to be after a lot of rain and the red dirt down here is like grease. I did not get stuck.  I know for sure i would have got stuck if i had an auto power divider.

I aquired a T880. Bought it to flip it. It needed a little help here and there. It's a Paccar with an Ultrashift 13.  I drove it around a little , and there;s no debating it's a pretty nice truck. Keep in mind, they make better appointed trucks than this particular one, and even at that it's hard not to like it. Haven't been in a newer Mack, so I can't really say much about them, but that T880 is a pretty nice dump truck. Mine is on Primax and it rides unbelievably good.  I'm all for traditional trucks, but if this is what there is to choose from now ????  I could adjust.

It may have been an 880 that i drove..  anyway, i would happily drive it again. My truck of choice is a late 90's Ford they have, and only because it has an 8ll transmission. All the others are automatic..

The MX13 uses EUP's doesn't it? I haven't really looked at one close up, but I've been told by someone that worked at Peterbilt for all of two weeks though.

I've never driven a truck with an automatic in it.  IDK if I'd buy one with anything but a manual, but that's only by my choice.  They came a long way with automatics and automated manuals.

I know the '10 EPA engines do. then the "17s are common rail.  Not sure about the one in between.  They sorta remind me of where the grey engine stopped. I guess that's the European design ???

My first dump truck was an R210 450 Red Diamond 5x3 Heavy Eatons on a Hendrickson, 10:00 x 20 rubber, lever on the floor with linkage and a cable to lock the power divider. I bought it off of a farmer in jersey for 800 and it had a seized up motor, It was old but everything looked like new, Not even a rock dent or a spot of rust on the 14 yard Heil body.

I bought a 450 out of a state truck from Donny and Bobby Metzger when they were in a barn up at Street Rd and 611 in Warrington. Bobby had long hair like a hippy lol. (Donny and Bobby are Coopersburg KW now) I think I gave them 500 for the motor. I put the motor in using the hoist in my grandmothers barn. It cost me as much for tags and insurance as I had into the truck

That thing was such a good reliable truck, nothing ever broke But it was no speed demon lol

It looked just like this one but the body was red
