Larry if you do decide to use this trans behind the 285 i'm guessing you still are using the single disc clutch don't let it lug mine with the 260hp. and triplex will slip the disc if I'm not careful if it gets down in rpm and I give it too much throttle too quickly it happened coming back from Macungie

Seems like it is from research I found.  Which is fine since I have a triplex.  I think the truck, being a fleet truck, speced it with just a 5 spd.  Not optimal but Mack must have okayed it.

I've seen other older fleet trucks with 5,6,7 spd transmissions on cat and Cummins.

I’m sure you probably know this, you have to bolt cases together to set endplay on counter shafts and shim accordingly,check at pto opening, and I believe on mainshaft output at back box takes spacers between the two facing bearings to set endplay.  Terry:MackLogo:
