So,,,, no,,,, N.C. is not getting aid, aid is being removed. Biden said yesterday, the California will get 180 day commitment from the Gov. It took weeks for N.C. to get help, the little bit they got.. Back in the day, as I was working as a Federal Firefighter, I was trying desperately to get hired onto the Philadelphia Fire Department. Even bought a house in the city to have the necessary residency. But I was a white/male/non-veteran and because there was still a minority hiring clause in place errrrrrrr excuse me, "The Preferred Demographic" I was screwed. I took that fire test three times. Studied my ass off every time. The last time I made #480 on the list but they were reaching into the 5000s, 6000s, 7000s (to get enough of the preferred demographic that had drivers licenses, no criminal history, and could pass a drug test) to get enough candidates to form recruit classes. Then my neighborhood started going down the shitter. When I bought the house in 1996 the street was all cops, firemen, school teachers. Then the crud started crossing Roosevelt Boulevard (Mike Durkin knows what I am talking about here, I lived near Castor & Tyson) and homeowners started moving to the far northeast and renting their rowhomes out to section 8. Anyway, I never made it. But to this day I remain a volunteer firefighter and I dont give a crap if you are white, black, blue, plaid, male, female, whatever. As long as you can pull my ass out if I am in trouble (and I can damn well do the same for you......) IDNGAF. Just do the job and do it well. Same applies to these "preferred demographics" today. Do the job, do it well and dont bitch and IDNGAF who or what you are. By the way I took the philly cop test one time (1998) and scored enough to get invited to orientation for application (first step in getting hired....) I chickened out because I didn't want to be a cop. Affirmative Action. That's what it was called in the late 70's until the end of the century in Indiana. I was a county volunteer in the late 80's & early 90's. My cousin was a city FD district chief (Now called Battalion Chief). I rode out of his house a few times with him & on the Engine, I wanted to get on but basically I was the wrong sex, color, etc. Norm couldn't even get his own son on and he would have been 3rd generation because of AA. Today every FD & PD in the state is looking for recruits to fill classes and increasing pay to try to lure laterals from other departments.
