Couldn't find any discussion on this so...

I've got a E6 2valve engine. The spec sheet and the plate say it came with a Dynatard. The rear head had been changed at some point prior to my owning it. The head does not have a solenoid or any indication of the parts/pieces for the Dynatard.   I have the complete kit, Jacobs Model 675A, that I would like to install. Is this a doable thing, or is this a big headache and/or mistake?  I am aware that its a small engine and the performance doesn't compare to other engines, but would still like to know if this can actually be installed and work reliably in this set up.

I can tell you that beginning in about 1980 all 672 cubic inch Mack engines were built with a Dynatard camshaft whether Dynatard equipped or not. I found out the hard way in about 1982. I tried to adjust the valves on one while it was running. You can't do that if the engine has a dynatard cam. It misses and pops and spits and has you scratching your head for a bit.

Earlier engines, if you wanted an engine brake, you had to either install a dynatard cam, or use a jake brake

from what I can tell in my search to see if my 1977 285 tipturbine was ready for a Mack dynatard or if I had to find a jacobs brand.

If you engine was built before 1980 or 82 (cant recall the exact year??) your engine tag needs to read ENDT676"B" for it to have a dynatard cam factory installed. If there is no B in the Engine code you likely do not have the dynatard cam factory installed and you probably need a Jacobs kit instead.

I do not know if the jacobs brand kit would work with a dynatard cam.
