Joey your correct, we were predominantly from British stock

I have half Scottish and half Welsh blood in me, the Princess is mainly English blood

My family came out here 200 years ago last yearbaa free settlers, Australia had only been settled 36 years when my ancestors arrived

We were British subjects for the best part of the first 200 years of settlement

In 1901 we become independent

1948 the Nationality Citizenship act came it been

And it took until 1984 for us to be no longer British subjects of any kind

A lot of things had to change for that to happen and they slowly did change

No mate, that was when we no longer were British subjects, or the change from British subjects to Australian citizens began

As British subjects we were pretty much a self governing country from 1901 and did what we wanted

As far as I know, the first war we fought under the Australian flag was the Vietnam war

Up until then it was the Union Jack

But Joey to answer your question, 1824 the continent became known officially as Australia

Do you celebrate with fireworks 🎆 🎇 like us ?  Im quite sure theres beer involved..

Joey fireworks are pretty much banned in most places in Australia now

Yet no one really cares to much and any excuse for some fireworks legal or not is welcomed by most

I always wanted to visit Australia, until I learned that every single bird, insect, mammal, and reptile wanted to kill me.

Tommy, I survived two weeks Down Under and came home to tell about it!!!

I enjoyed that programmed tour very much!! I wanted to go back for a self guided, rental car, motels and pubs trip, but could never swing it.  ATHS past president's John Vanatta's daughter Stephanie is the travel agent who built the ATHS Down Under Tour. She did an excellent job of combining regular tourist sites with the Aussie National show of antique trucks (over1000), and 2 attached museums in Alice Springs, and her father's connections in the antique truck world so that we not only did their National show but also several private collections including Tony Champion's MACK museum.

JC:  The song Waltzing Matilda is the unofficial Australian national anthem. It was written c1895 by a poet Peterson as a protest song in the sheep shearer's strike. A full translation is on Wikeapedia. Here is the famous Slim Dusty performing it at the closing ceremonies if the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games.

Paul (Cruiseliner): Start Saving Your Penny's!!!!!!! To do Australia right you will need at least a month.. There are many truck shows and museums as well as all the historical and tourist places. MrsMack should be able to help you find a lot of these.

Yeah we looked at doing it sometime but I could buy another Cruiseliner for less than it'd cost to go there.....still might do it when I retire in 5 years time.....
